We are step one closer for a potential Djokovic-FAA 4th round encounter! It feels like 2001 all over again because a legendary male tennis player will face a young and upcoming superstar male tennis player in the fourth round of Wimbledon!

What is Ivanisevic doing in the Djokovic camp? I thought he has enough coaches already.
He joined his team only for Wimbledon. Kinda financial help for goran! Couldn’t see any benefit for Novak.

Lol, I see what you're doing here. Djoker in 2019 isn't Sampras in 2001 though. This tournament is enormous for Djoker's legacy, I don't think he's losing before the final. He's probably not losing that either if we are being honest.

You posted it B4 me! Nole's nowhere near a Sampras ending run! He has a lot more yrs yet in him! Sampras went 2 yrs w/o winning!

There is another BIG difference between Sampras and Nole.
I disliked Sampras and I am a Nole fan. :)

It's not a terrible comparison, either...comparisons are rarely perfect. If he were playing Roger it would be a better one, but I'm sure you're glad Roger doesn't have to play FAA.

Wouldn't be worried at all. If Roger is to lose to anyone but Djoker here it proves he is in crap form and could lose to 10 different players. This kid hasn't proven anything yet.

I loved Sampras, game and heritage. But Sampras after 2000 dropped in motivation more than anything else once he set the record. Djokovic doesn't want to end up the forgettable 3rd wheel. His motivation still figures to be sky high.

Of course, why would you say anything different than what you always say. But FAA is a gathering threat. Like you, I don't give him much of a prayer against Novak, but hopefully he can challenge the mofo.

I don't see how you say that Sampras dropped in "motivation." The guy was maniacally competitive, and still is even in exhos. He had injury issues, and dropped in results. I do think his competitiveness made it hard for him to deal with not having the same extra-terrestrial results he'd been having, but I don't think he was complacent...he was disappointed.

Nah, he even said he was pretty satisfied after getting #13 and didn't have the same fire week after week. If he hadn't set the record I think he'd have played longer and at a higher level than he did the last 2+ years of his career.

His problem was not seeing the future and trying to make the record tougher. Roger at times has had the same issue, I wonder if he thought 15-16 was safe back in 2010 when he started to go lame. Maybe same with 2018 after winning #20. He's also made idiotic decisions in 2017 and now 2019.

Anyways he knows what is up now, have to put the others out of the race or his career weakens a ton. He's already got a crap total of MS which isn't important mind you, but he doesn't want to end up with a crap total of majors.

I give him a bit of a pass since he had done what was unprecedented in Open tennis; ended the year #1, 6 straight years! You could see the toll on the guy; his health, his hair falling out, and pretty much breaking down due to pushing himself so hard over the years! It was getting real ugly at the end with him going over 2 years without winning a title; 2000 Wimbl. to 2002 USO! His ranking dropped precipitously, I think as low as #22, but was given a #17 seed at that final USO in '02! He pulled a Martina Navr. of '91, coming into NY a mess, looking pretty pathetic, but with each round got better and better! Martina didn't complete the deal, but got to the final losing to Seles! Pete was fortunate enough to have his pigeon, Agassi waiting and blew him off the court in 4 sets! :yesyes:  :ptennis:

Nothing I google tells me that Pete Sampras was about anything than tennis history. Maybe you can show me something where he became self-satisfied. I really think you're projecting your own notions onto him and onto Roger. You've been making much of Roger's lack of motivation over the last couple of years. You substitute "motivation" for "age" and "injury" and inability to overcome the competition in the same way. I do think that Sampras quit, not because he felt like his legacy was secure, but because he couldn't face a drop in level and dominance. Roger has faced that, hung in longer, and still has come out on top. I think he demonstrates that he's very motivated. But nothing lasts forever.

Sampras never had much hair on his head but tons of hair everywhere else like some mountain Greeks around here. Some of us Greeks lose the hair early. Hasn't hit my aging ass yet thank God. My ego wont be able to handle balding or even grey hair.

Feliciano Lopez is really one of a kind. There is probably just two or three people in the world with ugly one handed back hands... he is one of them.

That's why he slice all the time, he is probably embarrased.
