By serving well, Federer is keeping Nadal off balance in the ground strokes. It is why the pace favors Federer right because he is not allowing Nadal to grind out points on the baseline.

As for Nadal, he is serving well but the key to him is returning serves. So far, he has not handled the serves well (credit to Federer) if he can not find his return of serve then it will be hard for him to gain some momentum on this match.
