I understand that because you don’t want to ruin the flow of the match but it is still weird on how they decide on things.

I think it has to do with darkness and possibly rain. I'd say there is a 90% chance this match will not be finished before 9pm, so they are pre-empting having to stop during the match.

What I would be interested in is to know how conditions will be affected by it. Novak doesn't like windy conditions, so that's good. But what about the ball bouncing and all of that? Nadal does not like indoors tennis too much I think?

Indoors definitely favors Novak as the ball does not bounce as high. Also, the grass is more slick indoors so Nadal will struggle to move around the court.

I will say this, the fist semifinal match might finish 7 pm local time the way it is going right now

Anderson just broke Isner.
Might be sooner than 7

If Isner doesn't win in 4 this match could go way past 7.

The funny thing about Rafa's marathon match with JMDP is that we really don't know if it will help or hinder him. Sometimes escaping from a tight match relaxes a player to go for their shots in the next match, other times its obviously they are mentally fried.

Anderson just broke, Good God this could go on for a few more hours

I hope for a quick and swift death for Nadal today. But I'm sure he will be fine as his endurance is legendary. Nole is going to show one way or another if he's truly back or at least close to it. It's been baby steps starting with RG but this is the first real test. Crazy that this is the first semi he's reached since 2016 USO, a pathetic mark for sure.

I think the decision to close the roof has nothing to do with the rain. I am under the impression that they cannot have the lights on unless they close the roof. They have estimated that there is no way that this match can finish before 9 p.m. and so they need to close the roof. Instead of closing the roof in the middle of the match, they decided to close the roof right from the beginning (so that there is no break in tempo of the match). Londoners can confirm my hypothesis.

that's correct. To be honest I'm here just outside London and it's already perilously close to being to dark to play

are you here just for the name-calling or to share insights?
80% of his posts are name-calling, whining and complaining about Roger's rotten luck and Rafa's incredible good fortune.
