Nadal had his best match of the tournament so far but the kid's game is very harmless. Still think Fognini takes him out if he wins this match.

Some people like to pretend that their agenda matches the plans and desires of a great champion. You are right, of course. Rafa has come to Wimbledon to try to win. Retaining #1 is a sideshow bonus, imo. What makes you think that more wins are a bonus? I think he actually hopes to win Wimbledon, which is the main reason why he is in the draw.
The comparisons you are making here do not make sense.
If dull doesn't go out in the next couple of rounds, he could even secure YE#1 by not even defending USO. That's how good #1 looks for Nadal right now. Federer has to do all the heavy lifting including USO. YE#1 is looking very good for Nadal now. Defending every single point in clay season, defended all his points in Wimbledon from last season. He can gain points in Canada cause remember he went out to Shap. He can also gain points in Cincy. So Nadal doesn't even have to defend USO, a QF or SF in USO would be enough specially if Fed doesn't win it or make the final.
YE#1 is not looking good AT ALL for Fed right now. This is a total disaster. Nadal going from 100 weeks at #1 to 200+ by just cleaning up clay. What a lucky guy he is, unbelievable.
Federer has to win one of the remaining slams to be in contention.
True but I suspect even that won't be enough. Nadal has gained two slams in terms of points on clay so if he goes deep in Wimbledon, race for YE#1 is over even if Nadal doesn't defend his USO unless Fed wins USO too.
I don't agree.
Suppose Federer wins this wimbledon and worst case scenario Nadal is in the final, he will lead the race by only 580 points (6240-5660) which I think Federer can regain in the post-Wimbledon part of the season barring a calamity like last year (only 960/4000 in North American HC swing)
But this is getting too far ahead. His complete focus should be on slams till US open ends.He screwed both his YE #1 ranking chances as well as his US Open chances(great opportunity with the depleted field) by playing Montreal and getting injured
In a TB. Neither of those guys will be competitive with Rafa on this stuff.

Well, for you who ever beats your idol it's because this one has made too many errors like in Wimbledon 2018......let me laugh. Oh wait, I forgot about the famous "mono"
LOL! Leyhani didn't know how to pronounce the kid's name. Asked him before the match the correct pronunciation
He is not smaller than Ferrer is, who did just fine, being a top 5 for a long time. This kid has a great attitude. I don't think top 10 ever like Mac says unless he gains 30 pounds and 2 inches.
Why do you call him Big ? Just curious.Big Foe takes the opener from Karen
That's not my nickname. ESPN coined it and I'm just borrowing this one.Why do you call him Big ? Just curious.
I mentioned to Darth the other day that Ernie looked pretty good. Just like Fog, he's unpredictable and a crazy shotmaker. Also, it looks as if he's changed the motion on his funky FHZverev is struggling against a qualifier. I don't know what to make of this guy. He loses the first set to Gulbis.
