Taylor Fritz was kind of backpedalling recently, after initially making waves. Good to see him being a force again. That serve is quite powerful and he knows and/or has the confidence to come in, unlike some one like Anderson who totally wastes his beautiful serve by staying far behind.

I think he's gotten better since he hired Annacone.

Now that the first round is over, it is time to check with the bookies again.

Here are current odds.

1. Federer 8/5 (38%)
2. Cilic 6 (14%)
3. Novak / Rafa 13/2 (13%)
5. JMDP 16 (6%)
6. Nick / Sasha 18 (5%)
8. Raonic 28 (3%)
9. Anderson 50 (2%)
10. Shapo / Stan 80 (1.2%)
12. Edmund / Querry / Isner / Nishikori 100 (1%)

Key changes / observations:

1. Fed's odds slightly improved.
2. Rafa and Novak are tied now and just slightly below Cilic.
3. JMDP moved ahead of both Nick and Sasha as he seemed to be in good physical condition.
4. We now have four contenders, four pretenders and seven players who will make naive betters poor.

Three players (bolded them in the above post) who were deemed to have some chances (including one considered contender) are now gone.

After two full rounds (except for one postponed match) are over, it is time to consult the bookies again.

Here are the latest odds.

1. Federer 21/20 (49%)
2. Novak 11/2 (15%)
3. Rafa 6 (14%)
4. JMDP 12 (8%)
5. Raonic / Nick 16 (6%)
7. Anderson 50 (2%)
8. Edmund / Isner 80 (1.2%)
10. Querry / Khachanov / Tsitsipas / Nishikori 100 (1%)

Important observations / changes:

1. Finally, there is significant increase in Fed's chances. It increased from 38% to 49% with the loss of Cilic.
2. We now have only three contenders (10% chance or more).
3. Novak moves ahead of Rafa, though the difference is marginal.
4. The chances for JMDP, Raonic and Nick all have increased by about 2%
5. Edmund and Isner break out of other suckers.
6. Khachanov and Tsitsipas enter, just in case anyone wants to donate money to the house.
7. List size reduced to 13 from previous 15.

Note that there are different companies offering different odds for the same players. What I report is the worst odds offered by any company for that player. In other words, if you have decided to put money on a particular player, no company offers you better odds than the ones listed above. If you are wondering why Sasha is missing here, that is because one house has dropped his odds to 500 (while most other houses list him between 16 and 25). Since I use the maximum odds offered by any single house, his name does not figure in the list above.

Now is a good time to bet on Fed. If you bet $100 on Fed, you will get $200. Not bad. 100% return in just two weeks. The best portfolio in stock market gives you 10% return in an year.

How does one go about betting? Is there a tutorial for it anywhere on this site?

Depends on where you live. Sports betting used to be illegal in USA (although they generally don't go after you). Recently, the Federal government lifted that ban. This does not mean that sport betting has become legal. In other words, the state could decide to whether to make it legal or not. Some states have jumped on and legalized it. Some other states did nothing (and so it is still illegal in those states).

If you bet your house on Fed right now, you will get two houses. You can live in one and rent the other one for your expenses. So, you can quit your day job and insult other people on a full time basis. :lulz2:

I was about to start a similar comment (although different background setting) about increased Fed chances, but you prompted me GSM. Thanks, I don't need to type mine any more.

I hope you'll be around if that happens! :lulz1:

As if scripted, Taylor loses the 4th set 6-1 and now is down a break in the decider 2-1

Winner gets Ernie so the winner gets to the 4th round. I hope Sascha takes it.

Sascha gets double break for 5-2, it's over. Hoping for Sascha - Nicky 4th rounder, need guarantee of a decent player in the semi in case the evil one worms his way deep
