Hello guys - long time!

Watching the match but can’t help missing the good old days of Big 4 (or 3?) dominance. Semi finals were so much more fun. Thanks to Delpo, things may get slightly interesting. Hoping for Delpo-Djoko finals and rooting for Delpo’s #2

It wouldn't bother me! DP should be rewarded for saving us another boring Nadalovic marathon final of scratchin', toweling off, coaching from the stands, and challenges to balls a mile out! Nole's already ahead of the game with no points to defend; the rest of the season is gravy! He'll end up at least #3 in the world after all's said and done! NO ONE would have prayed or thought of these possibilities after dropping Queens with a MP to Cilic! I can't be any more thrilled with developments! Rafa's still unable to defend a tourney on HC! Too strange for a GOAT candidate! :lol3: :cheerleader:

Here I am defending Nadal again, but I think people are too hard on him about the whole "defending off clay." Every great, even GOAT candidates, have their quirks. Like so:

Novak: Not as many Slams as Rafa and Roger.
Rafa: Lopsided resume, doesn't defend off clay.
Roger: Losing records against best contemporaries.
Sampras: Shit on clay.
McEnroe: Second half mediocre.
Borg: Never won USO, short career.
Laver: ...

etc.

Actually, of those listed, Novak's resume is the most balanced with the least deficiencies. All he needs is more Slams - a tall order, but I think all things tolled, if he is able to come close to Rafa's, say within one, his overall career will be greater. If he equals Roger, he'll probably have the better overall career. Laver really doesn't have any tarnish, but that might be because he played 50 years ago and all I can see is the actual stats rather than some memory of his play. I suppose there's always the amateur/pro thing.

But my point is, whose shit doesn't stink a little bit?

Nishi is looking like sushi out there, carved up and served. Pretty boring match...

Well I hate the result. But that WAS a brilliant backhand to finish. Just one of those things where like, I hate him. Or almost hate him. But it's hard to when he's that brilliant. Always brilliant. One of the best to ever hold a racket. Just phenomenal tennis. Has areas where Nishikori is close to him. But other areas where even a Nishikori, and really no one else, can hold a candle to him. It ticks me off because I want the guys I'm a fan of to be able to beat him. And beat him, like handily, the way he beats them. But they just don't have that extra bit. Though again. I will say that in this matchup, it's just an unfair height advantage. Yes. Nishikori routinely beats most of the men on tour who are all taller than him. But Djokovic isn't leaps and bounds above Nishikori's level. And the height thing definitely gives him an advantage. Mostly in the serve department where it's just geometry.

Still. He's just better. Hate it. But he is.

Congrats to him on another grand slam final. I guess.

Hope DelPo beats the snot out of him.

I'll skip that part when transferring other info! Thanks anyway! :nono:  :banghead: :cuckoo:

I honestly wasn't too impressed with Nole at Wimby even though he won it but now I can safely say he is back. DTL backahand is automatic now, which is a great way of gauging his game. He is way too steady for anyone right now. Unless some freak injury happens , he is the favorite for me for the foreseeable future.

Hey, it's like used money; it all spends! If he takes this title; I guess everyone will have to say "he's back!" :yesyes: :p

pathetic performance from kori. He should leave slams by QF stage and let the big strong ballstrikers like Cilic, Wawrinnka etc to take out the grinders like faker and dull.

I'll be satisfied either way! Both deserve it being out in the wilderness for a while due to injury! It would be nice to get Nole closer to the top with a couple more USO's, 1 FO, and maybe 2 AO so he'll own it alone; Fed having Wim. & Rafa with his FO's! :yesyes:

Although I have nothing against Delpo (and a lot in support of him) I would prefer a Nole win as that would more or less make sure that the Peasant does not finish YE #1.

It's so strange that your hatred of Nadal prompts you to root for a USO winner that you normally would support less. I suggest you get rid of your hatred and look at the final match on its own, otherwise said hatred simply distorts your reality. And the reality is: overwhelming majority of fans who are not direct Delpo nor Joker supporters (including myself) will root for Delpo for obvious reasons. Enough to mention Delpo has been waiting long time for this chance and had been hit much harder by injuries in the process. He is more modest person: i.e. never screams at ball boys and never complains at his box. Of course he's not without faults (e.g. he throws Spanish slurs at some opponents) but overall, his qualities outweigh the qualities of Djokovic.
Nadal's #1 should have nothing to do with this match and making your mind based on such a narrow view does not make sense.. Maybe if I'm going to tell you that, with Nadal injured, Joker can now threaten Fed record of slams if he's allowed to win too many of them (the difference is only 7 ATM, and can disapear in less than 2 years) unless someone stops him, then you're going to change your mind?

I guess Vajda's only advice to Nole will be - whatever happens don't play drop shots. ;)

I know what you mean but I'm still rooting for DP. Would be a hell of a story and you want to talk about a guy who has had bad luck with injuries...

Even if Djokovic loses the final he is going to have a good shot at #1 anyways, there's a lot of points in Fall season.

The problem with Nishikori is he can’t stay healthy for an extended period of time to gain any momentum. I am sure if he could compile a year where he remains injury free he could put himself in the conversation, but I’m not sure what is happening that he can’t seem to find any stretch of time where he remains injury free.

ND has been playing super clean tennis. The pace and bounce fits his game like a glove. DP, while explosive in bursts, couldn't serve out that first set against a sluggish Nadal. It all came down to the good TB he played. To me, it's ND's final to lose.

Heard on ESPN yesterday that Nadal, before 2018, hadn't lost a grand slam SF since 2009. That's something like 15+ GS SF? Mind boggling.
