You guys are funny....
Bad news for Rafa...great news for Djokovic fans...another slam in the bag.

I think it was clear even before today that Nole would massacre Nadal if that was the final. I'd say DP has a much better chance. And like I said on the other thread I wouldn't discount Nishikori's chances tonight, it's a big step up in competition for Djokovic after a feast of donuts.

Well Nads shouldn't be wearing that bull shirt and cap since he couldn't stay and finish the match

I disagree. We all know the real reason he's called the Spanish bull and plenty of it.

Here are the years and number of times each Grand Slam title has been defended, since the start of the Open Era:

Australian Open: 13 - 1972, 1979, 1982, 1984, 1987, 1990, 2001, 2007, 2012-13, 2016, 2018
Roland Garros: 16 - 1975, 1979-81, 1987, 1992, 1994, 2001, 2006-08, 2011-14, 2018
Wimbledon: 16 - 1971, 1977-80, 1984, 1994-95, 1998-2000, 2004-07, 2015
US Open: 11 1980-81, 1983, 1986-87, 1992, 1996, 2005-08

So yeah, a bit less than the others but not so much that we can say it is "never" defended. Just not in ten years, unlike the others.

Can you guys explain in what sense you've been calling Nad "gimpy" throughout this match? This is one of the UD terms that I cannot understand because it can have so many unrelated meanings, or maybe it does not have any meaning at all...

retiring midmatch when you could've simply played another set speaks volumes about this clay vulture's character.

The USO director should be fired for creating such a slow HC with oversized balls. Disgusting tennis illiterate doesn't know what he's doing and now he'll be doubly embarassed given that his pet monkey Nadull will destroy his knees playing on such a surface even though the court itself suits him.

Good lesson that money hungry pig learnt today.

N°1's not 20 years old anymore, he should know it and finish his previous rounds asap instead of long marathons vs Dominator...now his knee hurts him another time
will he ever learn from his past errors and take care of his body like a good friend ???

I’m no Nadal fan, but do people really think he would quit a SF of a slam without a really compelling reason to do it. This is what guys compete for Slams. He certainly wouldn’t want to continue and further the chance of exacerbating the situation and potentially having to stay away for an extended period of time when this time of his career matters. I know people want to see a match to completion, but I am sure Nadal knows his body and limits better than those projecting the notion he should have seen the match to the end.

I think Nadal should limit HC tournaments to preserve his knees. If I were in his camp, I’d tell him to play AO, all the big clay tournaments including FO, Wimby, then shut it down for the year. There aren’t many significant records he can realistically break so why risk more injury? This argument applies to Fed as well. He knows he can’t win on clay, so he skips the entire season, and several tournaments that won’t add to his legacy.

Nole's the last of the "Big 3" that should be performing a full schedule! To save him the grind of touring, it would make sense to drop a clay Masters early and forget both 1000's in the FALL! Most players are worn down by season's end and that's where upsets occur anyway! Heaven knows it happened enough "back in the day" with the likes of Sampras, Edberg, or Becker going out early in Paris! I don't blame Fed or Nole for playing the YEC; still means something even though little more than an exhibition! Rafa persists in trying to grind out a full sched.; ego and the constant refrain of how limited he is will echo in his head for all time! It's all true and I'll be writing towards the historic record for as long as I'm able! I recall in a little embarrassment how we allowed our judgment to be swayed just so we could say "I was there!" Sampras never even played a FO Final, so how could he ever be considered "Top Dude" with that kind of clay record? Rafa at least has had some success on his least favorite surfaces, but longevity and the gutlessness of the "next gens" have helped his cause along the way! Only time will tell how it all shakes out in about 3-5 years! :p   :ptennis:

Oh yea Roger’s ego is off the chart, even without that incredibly annoying ROLEX commercial with its pompous “ It’s not about me”...
