I think/hope it will be competitive. If Chung can hang in there for a few sets, I think it will go the distance with Chung winning the fifth. The old man will crack.

As much as Chung is playing good, I don't see him winning against Fed on his first match and that too at a big stage.
Hey, after all Fed has not lost a set yet; may be he will maintain that streak. Fed in three.

True. My mistake. But you take Chung in 5. I take Federer in 3.

Chung will need to prove himself. I am sure odds are low for Chung beating Fed here with the bookies. I'd like to see it though.

Edit: just checked: bookies are giving Fed 1/5, Chung 4. That's tough. Edmund has better odds against Cilic than Chung against Fed.

doesn't surprise me at all. Chung plays with a style that's almost identical do Novak. As impressive as that is, does anyone really believe Novak could have beaten Roger here this time? I remind you this court is playing faster than when Novak used to take Roger out here. I just don't see it. Quite apart from that, it's one thing to have the capability, and I do agree Chung has that. But it's a different beast to actually do it on the biggest stage the first time you play Roger. That's just very hard for me to imagine. Never mind what Chung can do to Roger, the real issue is can Chung at the first sitting figure out what he has to do beat Roger? When Roger is playing like this? One thing we haven't really considered yet, and this is that makes Novak so tough for Roger, is how good is Chung's return of serve?

Question: do you Feddies think Chung is a bigger challenge than Cilic?

A few additional considerations:

Favorable to Chung:
- Fed is older;
- Novak has taken Fed out at the USO as well, multiple times

Not so favorable to Chung:
- his serve is not as good as Novak's, he really needs to work on that;
- his forehand is not that great, I remember Novak really taking it to Fed in the cc forehand exchanges, I have to see Chung doing that;

meh... age is just a number, that doesn't worry me at all.

Yes Novak has taken Roger out at the USO, but... are now saying Chung's ROS is of Djoker quality? That's what it'll take

lol, really? Show me the statistics since 2011 that show that Novak does not stand a chance against Fed on hards. Novak has a fairly lopsided h2h against Fed with Fed only getting the occasional win at Cinci or something. A fit Djokovic would have taken Fed to the shed.

Yeah good point on the ROS. It might be decent, but nothing comes close to Novak's.

I think you misunderstand me. I'm talking about this Novak that got taken out by Chung. Do you think he would have beaten Roger here? I don't...

Difficult to say really. The serve was not good, and he was an ufe machine. But Fed is a different player than Chung. I'll admit though that it is difficult to see and it would have been hard.

Have you seen Rod Laver recently? Not sure he is still in his prime.

I think it's a factor with Roger if it goes to five sets.

difficult to see indeed. At the best of times Novak has to be on top form to beat Roger. I can't see it myself. But it's neither here nor there. Bottom line is Roger is a different animal and brings such a different style to the match that it's hard to see how Chung can overcome him at the first sitting. Remember it took Novak ages to work it out

Lol! Rod Laver? Why are you bringing him up? Roger's here, playing. Moving around like an 18yr old. I just don't think it's a relevant part of the discussion for a guy who is in the semi-final without dropping a set

He has a winning h2h now though.
