Nice to see Belinda back but I don't expect much from her. Maybe another round or 2 but then she'll be out.
There's not a whole lot going on in that 1/8th. She'll have a lot of confidence from this, and the Hopman Cup, holding it up for Switzerland with Roger. She might go a bit deeper than you think.

We'll see. She would have Mertens or Goerges in R16 and I don't see her getting past that one.

Indeed. And after that Fed Cup win. Hard to believe that none of them could hold on first round.

Fed's Mixed Doubles with Martina in 2016 Olympics did not materialize. Interestingly, Fed has now played with Bencic in 2017 and 2018 Hopman cup and developed some chemistry. In the mean time Martina has retired from doubles also. So, there seems to be a good chance of Benderer Mixed Doubles in 2020 with medal prospects.

Fed being quite the diva, I find it hard to believe that he would ever approve of nickname where he wasn't first, like Fedcic. :lol6:

I noticed that one, too. I actually like Fencic. Short, and rolls off the tongue. Benderer seems a bit conciliatory. And too long.

It appears Nike is gobbling up all the women players. Belinda left Yonex and is now w/ Nike. Sloane left Under Armour and is wearing Nike. Simona is not w/ Addidas anymore. In her warmup tourney she wore plain clothes w/ no sponsor as she didn't have a contract in place. I wonder if Nike will go after her as well

Whatever, I do think it's a bit shocking that Simona is without a sponsor. Perhaps she's in negotiations.

Halep asked Adidas for more money, and was rejected. Her agent is trying to find a more lucrative deal for her. Seems like a slap in the face to be number one and without a sponsor.

Four hours after the start of AO, 8 of 8 American women players were sent packing. Dismal result.

why does Bencic celebrate like a hyena when she beats the sisters..she will never have the same career.
Venus has had some first round losses at AO..remember her Pironkova losses..
that surface must be playing very slow..a bunch of americans are gone..

She celebrated because it was a huge win. It played like a QF. Take it as a compliment.

Irina Falconi looks much fitter than before. I have not watched her matches for a long time. She is being pummelled by Gavrilova.

she cheeses a lot when she beats a sister..I remember when she beat Serena in Toronto she did the same thing..its easy to see that Venus seems out of sorts in Sydney and Melbourne

Venus never lost to Svetana in AO. The Pironkova losses came at Wimby. She has lost some AO early rounders to Konta, Maka, CSN and now Belinda. I don't think Venus is really prepared. She normally comes down and plays Auckland which gives her over 2 weeks to get adjusted to the conditions. This year she skipped Auckland and plays Sydney going out in the first round. Not very much prep time to get ready for the first slam of the year.

By the way, the commentators all claim the surface is playing fast this year and they worry about it being a hindrance to defensive players like Woz and Simona.

You win the most pointless, heartless and sexist comment of the day.

I was expecting somebody to jump on me. But, I am just the messenger. I am pointing out the reason and not saying it
is justified. It is really sad that #1 player of WTA does not have a sponsor while established dopers have.
