I expect there to be a string of tennis players coming out of Korea in twenty years because of Chung. They won’t necessarily be good due to the poor coaching quality there unless the country imports talent.

Chung should have a big following in Indian Wells and USO because Los Angeles and Flushing have a Koreatown and big Asian populations.

People said the same thing about Japan because of Nishikori...and yet...there's what 4 other Japanese players in the top 200 and 3 of them are the same age as Nishikori and one is older than he is by 5 years. I think if he wins a Slam or is Top 10 there's a better chance that you'll see more players out of SK trying to make it on the tour, but I'm not sure that if he's just hot for 1 tournament its going to make much difference.

Koreans tend to be taller than Japanese or Chinese. Not quite as tall as Americans but close.

I’m assuming not enough time has passed since Nishikori broke out onto the tour to see his effect on Japanese tennis. Koreans have a strong herd mentality. Look at women’s golf. It’s practically all Korean because of Seri Park.

Cilic vs Rafa.

What do you think?

Will Cilic play an aggressive masterclass? Who thinks the surface is quick though? I feel at times, it's playing like snail. Let's see what happens. After that USO 2014 masterclass, Cilic hasn't played that well again. I hope this a great match.

Guys still in tournament:

Rafa
Cilic
Edmund
Federer
Berdych
Chung
Sandgren

So the famous players who are left are - Federer, Nadal, Cilic, Berdych.

And a bunch of surprise players are there - Edmund, Chung, Sandgren.

Does Chung look better than Zverev right now?

You know who else has short legs and a long torso? Richard Gasquet. He looks short on TV, too, but no one talks about him being too small. He's 6'1", btw.

No, they just call him a loser or an underachiever, or give him as an example of someone who did not make it. Lucky guy, isn't he?

P.S. For the ones who missed the sarcasm, I think he is a fine player and always watch him if I can.

It's good to see a Brit still in the running. We don't get many winners so it would be nice.

OMG; it happened! We all knew it would be a tough match, go long into the night, but it was quite gratifying the upset is complete! Rafa's history "down under!" Cilic kept him long enough on the court for Rafa to retire in the 5th set down 0-2! Most of us slept right thru it so will have to catch the repeat! What is it about Australia that just wipes Rafa out, winning just 1 time back in 2009 over Roger? "Congrats Marin!"  :yesyes:  :ptennis:

A bit of a harsh way to look at it. Less upset than tragic tbh...

I haven't heard how; what are the circumstances? Just seen the score! What did Rafa do, run into a wall?   :ptennis:

He had to retire due to an injury. It was clear that he was in some trouble.

OCO, that's nothing new! The same thing happened 3 years ago when Wawrinka ran his butt to death to win his first major! You made it seem like there was something unfortunate like he ran into a net post! Rafa hurts himself because of that silly style of just trying to win thru war of attrition! That's on him, not fate! Mon Dieu! :cuckoo:

Cilic has a great all round game, but he did have a cloud hanging over his head once, maybe that's why people are quite on him.

Have to concur with this. Plus...he over trains in the gym. This time last year they were saying that Moya had gotten him to stop working out so much on off days but looking at his biceps - he spent quite a bit of his off-season working out after rehabbing his knee. Been saying for years that he needs to shorten the points. Ditto for Djokovic and Murray. Still they persist with the 40-50 shot rallies nonsense. When are they going to realize - they're not 25 anymore...

His "cloud" was a doping ban during which he threw his mother under the bus. It's not like he got caught nicking watches out of the other players' lockers. So yeah, he gets side-eyed.. He seems to be well-liked by the other players on the tour though.

Behind the scenes, there's probably all kinds of emotions and suspicions with the players! We don't know and bringing up Cilic off the cuff was so unnecessary! I have more doubt about Rafa than any other player, but I'm not saying anything different than others! I had no idea about that so called cloud, so that was new! Gasquet's little drama made more news, but I don't bring it up out of the blue!

They were only 10 games into the Wawrinka match when Rafa did his back in, so I don't think you could say Stan "ran his butt off."
