I’m also glad to steer the chat away from conjecture as to Sandgren and his political affiliation—like any of us truly know. I get enough of that in political chatgeoups and at work.

That ball had some English and threw Sandgren off.

Hilarious war of the slices, and Chung won. Even the players were laughing.

EXCELLENT win for Chung. I have been the accidental fan, but I'm very pleased for him.

There was a war of slices and then a war of volleys, all in the last game.

But, seriously does not Chung remind you of Novak when he runs and then slides at the extremes of the court and hits the ball with a huge twist to his body?

I don't get why it was so funny.

Well, indeed it was so funny. I think many fans laughed. I am not very sure, I think even the players laughed (may be).
One or two is ok, but they were doing exactly the same thing for quite a while and that is why it was funny.

Fed next I assume.

They have not yet played each other.

Berdy has beaten Chung twice.

I’m also glad to steer the chat away from conjecture as to Sandgren and his political affiliation—like any of us truly know. I get enough of that in political chatgeoups and at work.

Sandgren addressed the points:

“You seek to put people in these little boxes so that you can order the world in your already assumed preconceived ideas,” he told reporters at Melbourne Park. “You strip away any individuality for the sake of demonising by way of the collective. With a handful of follows and some likes on Twitter, my fate has been sealed in your minds. To write an edgy story, to create sensationalist coverage, there are few lengths you wouldn’t go to to mark me as the man you desperately want me to be.

“You would rather perpetuate propaganda machines instead of researching information from a host of angles and perspectives while being willing to learn, change, and grow. You dehumanise with pen and paper and turn neighbour against neighbour.

“In so doing, you may actually find you’re hastening the hell you wish to avoid, the hell we all wish to avoid. It is my firm belief that the highest value must be placed on the virtue of each individual, regardless of gender, race, religion or sexual orientation.

“It’s my job to continue on this journey with the goal of becoming the best me I can. I’ll take questions about the match.”

Fair points.

you do realise the guy had a little razzia on his twitter account and deleted a bunch of his tweets? I wonder why. Probably all modesty about his civil rights activism.

fair points indeed. But why then did he delete his twitter? Makes it seem like he has something to hide. I would far rather he fronted up and gave an honest explanation. Pandora's box has been opened. This is the reality of the social media age. I for one don't believe all Trump supporters are evil or racist. If his motivations are really innocent, wouldn't it behove him to educate us? I would even accept him saying something like, "guys, I get that my twitter account is news-worthy in the context of today's politics. Let me make you a promise, once my journey in the AO is over, I would be happy to address your questions. But please give me the room to try to get as deep as I can without these distractions. I may never get another chance again." I would have been onboard with that

No, but I find the whole principle that he's borderline white supremacist because he voted Trump, laughable.

Maybe he couldn't be arsed with all the shit that went with it... but we'll hear him out no doubt, if he is as good as his word.

I think you are confusing two points here. 1) he supports Trump 2) he follows alt-right/white supremecists on twitter and has deleted tweets that may relate to that (likely as he deleted them after the whole controvery). The second point is why the whole race thing is coming into play. Regarding point 1) what can I say, it's a real shame that the Americans voted for a complete douche, I get that Clinton was not a good choice too, but I find it really sad that the Americans elected that person.
