Interesting Stat: Big John apparently had 100 winners (including 45 Aces) in his losing effort against Dudi Sela.

The rain delays are usually an integral part of Wimbledon. After five full days of play, I have not encountered rain delay so far.
That itself should be playing a role in the court conditions.

True. Not much rain lately and I guess being so warm in June made the ground harder too. For them to then slow it down MORE by changing the balls is downright despicable.

It is not just the posters here complaining. There is a concern over the state of courts expressed by many players and press. It is not that they did something different to the surface this year. It is just that due to the movement of tournament in the calendar, it is being played in hot conditions which makes the grass drier and more chomped up than usual. May be they should change the preparations next year, to take this factor into account.
Roger sum it up, to think of postponing a match is unnecessary..really what Roger is saying quit bitchin and move on & play

Doesn't seem that ridiculous a suggestion to me. Maybe the tournament director has no favorite player but he is human...it's possible is all I'm saying. I'd cut off my left...hand if he likes Federer and still made the changes he's made the past 10 years.

I stand by that medium hard court statement. This shit is THAT slow with this heavier ball. Does anyone have the % of games held? That's perhaps the best indicator of court conditions, seems like a crazy amount of breaks for the first few rounds and we know it will only play slower by the end of next week.

I could be wrong but I don't think the decision to change to heavier balls happened overnight. When it was made/discussed, the director probably didn't even know Rafa/Roger would be factors, let alone among the favorites, in light of last year.

When was the decision made, do you know?

No idea, and I'm just theorizing, hence "I could be wrong."

To be honest, I don't even know if the balls were actually changed as I looked it up online and didn't anything, not even a player commenting on it (which is usually common). The conditions are definitely slower, but the only thing I've heard about heavier balls is people ranting about it here.

Trivia question: What is the last GS in which all four members of Big 4 reached SF.

I looked for something too and nothing to indicate that the balls are different to last year.

Dustin Brown said it and apparently McEnroe and Fleming hit some balls around, a few from last year and some this year and they said the ones this year are clearly heavier

Brown did say that the balls seem to be a lot slower this year. Didn't find anything from McEnroe/Fleming, though perhaps you heard that on TV? But Brown's main complaint was about the courts, and the weather seems to be a big factor on the grass this year. This happens in hotter, drier summers.

Nadal looked good for two sets (maybe even very good), but that last set was worrying as it showed the Wimbledon demons of the past are still there (ie opponent starts serving well, hitting hard, and Nadal becomes tentative and unable to hit through the court). Muller will be dangerous but I think Nadal will navigate through that match. Cilic on the other hand, is really worrying me.
I saw it the same in the 3rd set. Hopefully the win brings more confidence, especially getting through in straights. And I've already said the same about Cilic.

I mentioned it in a previous post. Mac was on ESPN this morning talking about it and here's an interview w/ Dreddy where he talks about it.

http://www.menstennisforums.com/2-g...bledon-courts-year.html#/topics/916305?page=8

This thread mentions the McEnroe bit too, but I think someone earlier on this thread mentioned the same. I haven't seen much live tennis yet and it sounds like I haven't missed much. Wimbledon is down to my 3rd favorite slam anyways.

Second biggest complaint I have in tennis is the "new" Wimbledon and the crap tennis it produces. Some of us like fast courts...1st biggest complaint is the corrupt ATP governing body. Would love to see both terminated (slow hard court at Wimbledon and ATP heads) ASAP.
