Monfils is doing well now. 3-2 up on serve in the fourth set.

My thoughts are having Moya on the team really should pay its dividends because he was one of Milos technical advisers the past couple of years..I would think he would be able to help Rafa alter his return serve positions and advise him to try to use the lefty advantage to neutralize Milos court positioning. The 3 and 4 set vs Monfils concerned me because I knew Gael still had a few levels to elevate his game. Yes, Milos will serve bombs but just a Bautista showed Milos can be out played but you have to weather his storm.

maybe Lord Carlos helped Rafa, let's see if he can beat Milos (I bet he'll) and reach final on the process (vs Stanimal ???)

Isabelle, I notice when Gael began to go to the big serve big forehand first strike tennis, Rafa changed his tactics..he began cranking his return of serves and during the rallies drop the ball extremely short to draw Monfils into the net., These tactics will be very effective against Milos who is nowhere as talented or comfortable as Monfils is around the net..I listened to Pat McEnroe anti Rafa talk and he gives Milos the favorite but I don't give a lot of credence to his analysis.

I'm very pleased with Rafa's results. He has had difficult opponents in his way with very different style of play, Muller, Bagh, Zverev and a very serious Monfils (far to act like in the last USO playing against Novak, embarrassing) and he has been able to change the tactics with everyone tough He knew that he should have finished in three sets and that's why he looked a little frustrated at the end of the third.

Pat McEnroe is a fervent Roger's fan so I never expect something different of him, who cares what he says or wish :nono:ras:

Just like John McEnroe is a fan of Rafa. They all have their favorite players. However, I think Nadal is favorite to beat Raonic.

Pat McEnroe covets Roger's testicles more than Mirika could every dream of...I was on about 2 other boards and everyone said the same thing about Pat McEnroe and Chris Fowler...Johnny McEnroe is just brutally honest..IMO

Nadal played very well, deserved to win, and Monfils got in fact lucky to win the third. Having said that...

Monfils comfortable at net? In what universe? He gets one trick shot here and there and misses everything that has some kind of difficulty. The fact that he jumps and spreads his legs to hit an easy volley does not make him a good volleyer. Raonic may not be the king on that department, but he is far more effective than Monfils. We´ll have a completely different match (not saying that Nadal cannot win, coin toss IMO).

mrzz, we are gonna have to Agree to Disagree..about who covers the forecourt and net area better..I am almost certain it's Gael over Milos

Yeah..I haven't recall Grigor getting this far in GS but I feel he will end Istomin 's fairytale run

Grigor made it to the QF at the 2014 AO (lost to Rafa) and the QF of the 2014 Wimbledon (lost to Novak). That was the year he reached #8, finished #11 and looked like he was breaking through. If I remember correctly, he refused to be an alternate at the WTF.

I was expecting you to know better Grigor's accomplishments.
He reached SF at Wimbledon in 2014, not only QF.

It was a typo. I meant to type "SF" but I guess I had Qs on the brain.

Tsonga-Wawrinka is going to be very interesting same like Goffin-Dimitrov :popcorn
I don't see M. Zverev winning three matches in a row

Thanks for the correction though I was thinking more in his two last matches but then it's more in my favour, he won't win 5 matches in a row

Fair enough. Just for the sake of a healthy discussion, sure Monfils covers the net area better. He is almost as tall as Raonic, but is faster and stretches more. But my point is that he ends up missing the volleys, so in the end is not effective.
