Last name on the old, first name on the new. Nothing could be more fitting, not for this athlete who straddles eras, not for this champion going where no-one else has gone."

I am glad that the final was quite competitive, not withstanding the score and the time it lasted. We are used to seeing 6-2, 6-0 in 45 minutes type of finals. It looks like may be the WTA is maturing.
In fact, all three finals of this year have been quite decent and worthy of watching.

Just an interesting (but meaningless) stat. Serena is now at #4 in the total number of grand slam trophies won (including women's doubles and mixed doubles). Serena has 38 (22 + 14 + 2). BJK has 39 and is easy to surpass. However, MN' 59 or MC's 64 are probably untouchable by Serena.

Not sure what his confusion is around? She was pretty clear...she said she loves Sam, but loves to see champions win more.
Novak is a proven champion , her fellow #1 and was chasing history. More beneficial for the sport if Nole keeps going, rather than the 2 highlight chapters in Sam's future memoirs about how he beat the #1 player at 2016 Wimbledon.

This is why I do not come to this board when Serena is Playing because you all make it sound as though she's playing so badly and getting her ass kicked. I watched the match after it was completed and it was well played especially by Serena, by reading this board one would think that Serena was playing the worse tennis ever.
