Congrats to Novak. Thought it was going to be more competitive after that first set, but I guess not. Congrats to Murray also for stepping up his clay game and improving his results.

Djokovic is definitely setting himself apart from the other men. I don't think it is a matter of if just a matter of when he passes Nadal in number of titles. I am glad he has an RG title now he might be able to play there more freely and claim at least one more before he retires sometime down the line.

He'll be the favourite again next year and quite rightly so. Less pressure too next year having finally won it.

Hopefully Federer and Nadal can comeback and compete well again. I knew Rome was an anomaly and Andy was being overly praised for his Rome result.

Well, two more slams and he ties Nadal. I heard the announcer mention he's at the same age Roger was when he won his 12th slam.

Stop the sour grapes - Novak is awesome, played awesome, and completely deserves this trophy.

Novak didn't have to defeat Nadal he did that last year. One of the two people to only ever get the best of Rafa at RG ;). He definitely paid his dues and then some battling Nadal like no one else has here before! Congrats big guy on the win! Enjoy some pizza and champagne today!

It is not sour grapes. It was intended to be funny remark and not serious (see the third one especially). :)

Did I hear correctly? Simon Reed just said "Murray outstanding. Just wasn't enough" Is he for real? He was utter crap in sets 2 and 3.
Andy's first serve started to desert him at some point in set 2 and never really came back. I think he tried to take something off it from set 3 on, but even then his first serve percentage kept getting worse.

Novak on the other hand improved considerably after saving a break point to hold for 1:0 in the second set and started to serve quite solid, generate great angles and change direction on his ground strokes well. Andy seemed to struggle to anticipate Novak's play then and was on the defense in an overwhelming majority of the rallies from that point on. Also Novak's net game worked extremely well today and he won a lot of the finesse points (drop shots and reacting to Andy's drop shots) which is an area where Andy usually needs to have an advantage to trouble Novak.

But I think the serve really was the most important reason as in this match-up the player who serves better can usually successfully stay in his comfort zone and especially Andy gets outplayed when he keeps up with a rather defensive style or at some point starts to miss more than he can afford to when he tries to play more aggressive than he's used to if he's the one who is serving worse.

Actually, I hope Thiem grows from his RG experience and becomes even more determined. Pipe dream! I think he still has another year of growing, but when he does blossom :)

I was expecting that Novak will win this match in 4 sets. But, I was expecting a score line of 7-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 or something close to that. Little did I expect that the scoreline and the quality of play from Andy will be this bad.

Well, I always saw Murray as a step above Roddick and well below the other 3 in Nadal, Federer and Djokovic.

Now Olympics !

I hope he doesn't go. It's a bad idea. Don't want Stefan's little brother having Zika head.

And if Nole wins Wimbledon this year, I'd like him to be fresh for the USO, which is WAY more important than a gold medal.

Yeah, definitely. While the result (Novak in 4 sets) was pretty much carved in stone before it began, I doubt anyone expected such pathetic scores in sets 2 and 3.
