With the ATP not awarding points for the ITF competitions apart from the majors this year he probably lost his chance to score 17000 points by going out in the quarter finals of Dubai and the 2nd round of Monte Carlo.

No points for Olympics this time. However, there are points for DC as usual.

They test rigorously at the Olympics (WADA not the pathetic ITF) so any player who doesn't play the Olympics is open to suspicion. Given it's only every 4 years and may be the final Olympics for many, most should play.

Borg didn't play Queens way back when and he won 5 straight with 6 finals! Why change the routine now? :dodgy:

I actually think this year would be a good idea to play a warm up before Wimby. For the exact reason above...to come down from RG after a win this time around. Getting into the groove of things as opposed to sitting on your bum and basking in your glory. It was different when he lost RGs. After a win, he has to realize maybe even more that life goes on and there is a lot of tennis around the corner. IMHO.

It is not just last year. Novak has not played grass warm ups for the last several years. It would be foolish to alter a schedule that is working well for him. :nono

GSM, I know that, but this is the first year he WON the RG. Different mindset now. How will it effect him? Positive, negative, too relaxed, more pumped? Nobody knows because it has never happened before. So, maybe getting back on the court sooner than later might be a positive. Just a theory.

Oh, I forgot that you are not born yesterday. :) I understand your theory. But, I doubt that Novak will listen to you.

Listen, if my son were an Olympic athlete? The Zika problem alone is enough to have me strenuously discourage him from going. Add that the facilities are nowhere close to ready, the government is in major upheaval and it's in Rio De Janeiro, I wouldn't let him go.

Novak has officially qualified for the WTF in London this year :clap If he wins there, he will tie Roger for the number of YEC trophies won (another record of Roger that might bite the dust :cry) Actually, he qualified after he won the QF match at RG, but we were busy following RG

Now Olympics !

I hope he doesn't go. It's a bad idea. Don't want Stefan's little brother having Zika head.

And if Nole wins Wimbledon this year, I'd like him to be fresh for the USO, which is WAY more important than a gold medal.

Novak would not listen to you either. Given that Gold is missing, he will and should play there.

If you look for example at Novak's rankings breakdown: http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/players/novak-djokovic/d643/rankings-breakdown you will see that there are no points for Davis Cup listed although he won two rubbers in the World Group Match against Kazakhstan in March. As Novak played less than 18 events within the last 12 months those points would definitely be countable for him if they existed, so I'm pretty sure that the ATP doesn't award points for wins in DC singles matches this year.

Andy has 545 points for DC on his breakdown which is probably the amount of points for the six singles matches he won in QF, SF and Finals last year that happened less than 12 months ago and therefore haven't dropped yet.

:snicker He can't even hear me.

I disagree with you about his going to Rio.

A gold medal at the Olympics < the calendar year Grand Slam.

It's definitely FAR lower on the list of accolades but nice to have all the same and I'm sure he's thinking he'd like one too :)

Novak takes so much pride in his country that there is no way he isn't going to Rio unless everyone in Rio starts falling over. I admit I would sooner he focus on Wimbledon and the US Open than the Olympics, but hey I doubt he will get another good shot at gold after this year, so....off to Rio. I hope Novak just plays Olympics, Cincy and the US Open.

NOLE NOLE NOLE!!!

I am rooting "No-1e, so-ko-1e!" Meaning "No1e falcon" but in Serbian it is rhyming and is really beautiful, in my opinion, anyway.

What about Golden Grand Slam, all majors plus Olympics gold?

I'm not out to win an argument, I simply have an opinion. Going to Rio is a bad idea, not just for Novak but for every competitor, every spectator. They should shut down the Olympics and bypass this one completely. Bringing athletes and countrymen from all over the world into the Zika Zone and then sending them all back to their respective countries is courting disaster.

I didnt know no points for Olympics, and even for DC. But he stated he will go to Rio. Just maybe Jelena wont be there. But there are female tennis players, more problematic.

In that case, maybe better to rest to get Cincinati and Wimbledon.

FG You are right. No points are being awarded for any ITF events (including Davis Cup) beginning in 2016. But, the points earned in davis cup in 2015 stay for an year before they drop off. This is explained in the Rankings FAQ section of ATP web page. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Congrats to the great Serbinator, he deserved to win even if I rooted for Andy
