Keeps dumping it into the net. Is it the lefty thing, or does Kerber use a lot of spin?

Angie's a little passive. Who dares wins girl. Serena won't give this away.

Note: last shot she got aggressive again.

Congratulations to Kerber her first Grand Slam Title, she deserved her win,she was focused from the start of the match, she attacked Serena's fhand and found many error's also returned Serena's 2nd serve as well.

With this win Kerber will be ranked the No 2 player, well deserved.Somewhere Steffi Graf is smiling big time:)

Well-deserved. She was the better player all day. Serena was off, but that speaks to how hard it is to stay at the top of the pile, especially at 34. Kerber was diamond sharp at almost every moment.

That was worth waking up for. I was cynically going to sleep through, thinking Serena had it in the bag. Excellent performance by Angelique Kerber, newly minted #2.

Well, what can I say?

A rollercoaster ride of a final. I didn't have a dog in the fight really, so usually pull for the underdog. I didn't really expect too much from the match - I thought Serena would win in straights and with relative comfort.

Angelique came out like a firecracker... Serena looked tight. Her serving was poor, she was overcooking what should have been routine shots and her net game was pretty poor.
Not to take anything away from Angie who defended superbly - one of the most incredible rallies (which she actually lost) near the end of the third set showed how much she really wanted this. At that time, despite losing the point I thought maybe it was destiny that her name was on trophy.

She had a "good luck" text from the great Steffi Graf, her idol and German compatriot before the match... I'm pretty sure she'll be getting another one post-match.

Well done Angelique Kerber, the new world #2. It's great to see first time slam winners, achieving their dreams and converting all that hard work throughout their career into a tangible place in history.

I thought that was Yvonne Goolagong. One of my early favorites. A charmingly breathless speech from Kerber and real graciousness from Serena. Unexpectedly excellent final, all around. Now I'm hoping for a nap.
