Monfils out of Bercy...what a surprise !!

Might not be a bad decision considering he qualified. He can get some R&R and figure out more innovative ways of tanking at the WTF now.

Dan Evans pulls out of Bercy... because his racquets didn't show up? For real? There's not a tennis shop somewhere he could have gotten a suitable replacement in Paris?

I just sometimes wonder how some of these pros brush their own teeth sometimes.

I was thinking the same thing. He may have a better shot do to do well at the finals and he has never been there and who knows if he ever will be again. Maybe this is his chance to make something happen there.

IDK why I sorta flip out when I see articles concerning IPTL! For years, all I hear from the top players, men and women is that the season's too long and they need a longer vacation! So these spoiled millionaires sign up for that Team Tennis in the East; regardless if more like exhibitions! It's still travel, time away from family and friends, and the grind continues even if not under stress! Why do players like Nadal sign up for this crap except for $$? He really can't turn down a few mill? That's so ridiculous IMO! :nono :puzzled - http://fiero4251.blogspot.com/2016/08/fan-page-novak-nole-djokovic.html -

Fiero, that's what so troubling about Rafa..he chases the all mighty dollars when he should be trying to chase major titles :nono

I agree with Fiero and A-P, but I think in Federer's case, this makes sense, in some ways. he's been off for a while, so some tennis - amy tennis - will be welcome before the next season starts.

I dunno whether rafa will actually play. I'd say he signed months ago, but things have changed.

I hope...

The Buddhist of Monte Carlo is not only not travelling with either of famous coaches this week, but he's enlisted the help of a self help spiritualist guru to help him banish the ghosts of Bollywood and any other allegedly carnal distractions he's been getting lately. Pepe Imaz. No, me neither. But here they are on stage, giving it all that:

Meditation: good. New Age guru: Hmm.

Meditation has been used by players for decades now, with some very good results (think Phil Jackson's basketball teams). At the least it can help with focus and calm. But the guru thing is a roll of the dice. It could help, or it could be disastrous.

Either way this news isn't really news in that it doesn't mean anything more than an article reading, "Rafa contemplating his future while fishing." Of course if Novak returns to top form then we can all think, wow, this Imaz guy is amazing. Where do I sign up?

I totally agree about IPTL, except as Kieran said, it makes sense for Roger to use it as a way to work the rust off...and make a few bucks while he's at it. Otherwise he'd be using Doha as his warm-up, which might not be enough, especially if he goes out early. This way he'll have a bunch of pro matches before the Australian Open.

Roger is not playing in Doha. He has signed up for Hopman cup as warm up for AO. He will play alongside Bencic.

While I have great respect for the teachings of Buddha, I am not sure they are helpful in the sport of tennis, which is, by its nature, antagonist and often mentally/physically brutal.

Is Djoke playing IPTL?

I don't mind Buddhists, that's up to people themselves, it's more that Novak comes across as being faddish and pretentious sometimes. Aspirational in a sense that's way too modern. Modish.

Anyway, to answer your question, I don't think he's playing the Indian circus...

Are you saying Novak is serving a "silent ban" from playing the Indian circuit enforced by his home front :snicker

I'd say it's a pattern, more than a coincidence... :snicker
