Nick's an e-Nick-ma. He needs help but he also gets a lot of sympathy, because he's talented. Both are good reaction, but sometimes a bloke like him needs a kick up the arse too.

Doesn't seem right that they're targeting this guy solely to make an example of. Sure, his conduct in that match sounded ridiculous (haven't seen any clips but from what I read it's a joke alright) but Monfils isn't much better and they wouldn't have the balls to suspend him. Not impressed with the ATP/ITF but then what's new. They're a cowardly bunch of imbeciles.

I don't think they was targeting this guy. I wouldn't have a problem if Gael would have received a fine either but he didn't deserve a suspension.

Oh, common, they "targeted him":speechless:
Nick had so many acts of violations of sportsmanship in a matter of two years that they had to do something finally about it.

And how many matches has Monfils tanked? He's a useless pos if ever there was one.

This is my issue with you, your reply has no logic. True Gael applied a lazare faire strategy vs Djoker but it was nothing at the level of what Nick did. Agassi and others have tanked sets before to conserve energy for later in their match but nothing like what Nick did. You can't compare those two incidents, they are mutual exclusive, IMO.

You think that's the only bad match he's played? What about the RG match against Murray? Wins 2 straight sets 6-4 6-1 (!) to even it at 2 sets a piece and then loses the 5th set 6-0 but it wasn't that he just lost the set, it was HOW he lost the set like he didn't give a flying f**k. Watch the highlights and you'll see him blasting shots miles wide and serving double faults like he gave up. The set took 10 minutes at best. Why would any self respecting, good player do that having deflated their opponent by winning 2 straight sets, the latter of which was 6-1?! He's a joke. So many times he's lost 6-0 or 6-1 sets by not even trying and I'm talking final sets not random tanked sets which is not the same thing at all.

They've all tanked sets, but not matches. Big difference. Why tank a match you've just leveled?! Nick's suspension is way too harsh. 3 weeks would've been enough. It's not right what they did to him. Murray hasn't ever even been fined afaik for cursing and his conduct on court is despicable. Have Fognini or Tomic been suspended like this? No. Yes, they did make an example out of Kyrgios and it's not right. The punishment is too much when others out there behave very badly and get nothing.

Actually 3 weeks would've ended his season anyway so it's all the same but still total bs.

This morning I was listened to an old Beyond the Baseline podcast from midway through this past Wimbledon with guest Paul Annacone. He broke down his general categories of player like this (while discussing Marcus Willis and his run to R2, ranked in the 700s at the time):

Greats: Top 5
Very good: 6 to 20
Good: 21 to 50
Tier 4: 51 to 150
Tier 5: 151 to 300s
Tier 6: 300s to 700s
The rest

I found this very interesting- I normally think of, and in our discussion of rising youngsters we've been using rank 100 as the breakthrough number, but in the above categorization top 150 would really be the threshold. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

That seems about right and is similar to systems of tiers I've played with. I kind of like to insert a tier between the 1st and second above, a #6-10 tier because there are players consistently in that range and there's a significant difference between the Tsongas and Berdychs of the world and the Simons and Isners.

Top 150 is usually when you start doing well at, even winning, challengers.

My tiers would be:

Tier 1: Top 5, Slam contender
Tier 2: 6-10ish, Slam darkhorse
Tier 3: 11-30ish - seeded at Slams
Tier 4: 30-50ish - stable in the top 100
Tier 5: 50-100ish - main draw of Slams
Tier 6: 100-250ish - Challenger circuit/Qualie-limbo
Tier 7: 250+ - Futures

Or something like that.
