Er, so many people out there are ambidextrous. Give him a cookie. I'm not saying he's not talented, clearly he is. But also clearly he is not as talented as Roger Federer and if you can't see that you're watching the wrong sport. Roger is being humble and frankly dishonest.

Poor boy, Federer abandoned you and praised Nadal, so now instead of ignoring it, or liking it, you have to attack Federer... :nono

I didn't ignore it. I read it and laughed and I also somewhat liked it if you wish to call it that as I said it was a nice gesture to a guy whose career is in a downward spiral. But in no way would anyone sane agree with it.

Spot on from Djoker, far as I'm concerned:

They fought for what they deserve and they got it. On the other hand I think that our men’s tennis world, ATP world, should fight for more because the stats are showing that we have much more spectators on the men’s tennis matches. I think that’s one of the reasons why maybe we should get awarded more. Women should fight for what they think they deserve and we should fight for what we think we deserve.

He's catching heck for it in the media....

Why? He's only telling the truth. :dodgy:

Do women get paid the same in golf? Football? can you imagine a club being told they have fork out €80m on some girl footballer, to be politically correct, and pay her €300,000 a week. For what? Nobody cares about women football except women.

Sports and games like chess, darts, snooker, horse racing, where women can compete evenly with men. How's that going for them? Are they winning anything? They enter the events, but they get beaten early in darts and snooker. There's been one very good chess player, and so she earned her whack alongside the men, but otherwise? It's ridiculous, this demand that just because they play, that women should earn the same as the men. Totally wrong.

men are more competitive than women, and they're better at sports, and although it's great to see women sports, it's never of the same calibre as the men. We're not equal or the same - we're different, and when it comes to sports, men are better.

An argument maybe made, ugh you're forgetting how much Sharapova earns in endorsements. As if this is by merit. If it was, Serena would earn roughly five times more than her, not less. She earns this money cos she's tall and blond, and these tall blond girls have been making money off their looks for centuries. That has nothing to do with tennis.

The women actually earn more than the men, because after a spot of pitty-patty for 30 minutes in the first round of Wimbledon ("Miss Williams wins by 2 sets to love, 6-0, 6-0"), they don't even have to shower and they can come back out and play the doubles. Get another wedge. Don't even have to touch up their make up... :cover

To be fair, women only get paid the same at the slams WTA event purses are well below the ATP in most tournaments. I like it personally that women are paid well. I think helps cultivate the sport as legit, and that is part of the reason why womens tennis is the biggest female sport.

That being said, I don't have any problem with what Novak said. It's reasonable and logical, but he, as a player, certainly has different interests than the average spectator.

That begs the question as to why the women aren't paying themselves equal money. Of course their shankathons largely hilarious, and obviously a few of them are more shapely and better looking than the blokes, but the tennis is literally atrocious, most of the time. Some peeps say it's a commercial thing, but separate the two tours fully - including at the slams - and come back in ten years and let's see how they're doing.

#JeSuisRayMoore, anybody? :popcorn

I agree completely with Kieran, and Djokovic earned (more of) my respect by going out and saying what he said out loud.

I hardly see someone come out and state something outside the political correctness innuendo, at least without coming out later with an excuse.

But the circus, at least, is funny to watch. There are people advocating for equal pay in soccer.

Why? He's only telling the truth. :dodgy:

Because he didn't bash Mr. Moore (the EX-ceo at Indian Wells). Because he didn't defend the idea that women should always get equal pay. Because he actually talked about their hormones.... :cover

Serena has waded in with literally the most silly nonsense argument in favour of equal pay in tennis that I've ever heard:

If I have a daughter who plays tennis and also have a son that plays tennis, I wouldn’t say that my son deserves more because he is a man. If they both started at three years old I would say they both deserve the same amount of money.

“I have been playing since the age of two and it would be shocking to say my son would deserve more than my daughter. It is irrelevant. Novak is entitled to his opinion but if he has a daughter – I think he has a son right now – he should talk to her and tell her how his son deserves more money because he is a boy.

Eh. I've been playing tennis since I was two. Will you please give me some of your millions, Ms Williams? :cover

That kind of sentimental weakness is what typifies this debate...

Yup. Idiotic if they can't see that the more physically demanding ATP matches, which do in fact get more spectators as Novak correctly pointed out, demand more money. In layman's terms, would someone expect to be paid the same for doing less work or paid more for doing more work? Well, I know quite a lot of lazy b******s who do expect to get paid the same as me for doing f**k all work, but realistically the answer should be no. And that's the way they should gauge it imo.

I don't understand the big deal on what he said. He is a results oriented man. He is merely stating that everyone should fight for what they deserve man and woman. He even states that if stats can prove that the women are doing more than them should they be paid more than the men, and he responded with absolutely. There is nothing wrong with wanting what you feel you deserve man or woman.

Let's also be real here: The men set the benchmark for the women where pay is concerned. I don't think the women are saying hey we deserve to be paid this. They are only saying pay us equally to the men. If pay is of great concern, then I have to ask why aren't more female tennis players saying hey I feel I deserve this regardless of what is going on in men's tennis. The only time it seems to come up is when there is this notion of inequality to pay. The only thing Novak is advocating is fighting for what you feel you deserve and what you are worth man or woman.

I would also like to add you always hear about Roger, Nadal, and Novak going to the ITF and tournament directors asking for a bigger piece of the revenue pie. You never hear about Serena, Venus or Vika going to the ITF or tournament directors asking for larger cuts. You only hear about them saying wait a minute when the guys get what they want, and the ladies are like as long as it is equal.
