Serena is still the best player without any doubt and besides that with a lot more experience, she probably will win but anyway I will be very proud of Garbi reaching the finals (she says that always has dreamed playing a GS final with Serena) having played excellent all the tourney. she is already #9 and I'm sure she will continue advancing.

Absolutely.

And great anecdote about dreaming of playing Serena in a GS final. Literally a dream come true. How often can you say that? :)

Exactly, not too many players are able to play a GS final against Serena but I'm sure all of them has the same dream

That's something to tell the grandkids, no? "I lost to Serena in one of the Slam finals of the year she won the calendar slam."

I'm getting ahead of myself here...

I don't get ahead of myself. Yes, Muguruza showed nerves, but she still closed it out. Granted Aga is a much different opponent compared to Serena. Can't take anyone for granted. They all want a piece of Serena. Muguruza has a win over Serena in a slam, so that isn't anything to take lightly, but the grass takes away a lot of time that Mugu will need. If Serena comes out playing well start to finish, it is hers.

Getting ahead of ourselves is how Maria winning Wimbledon 2004 and Sam Stosur winning the U.S. Open 2011 happen. Tennis has to be played, and it is never over until the last ball strikes.

it's kind of a closer H2H than I expected. I have to go with Serena, because although Garbine has the cutest dimples, I still can't see that being enough... :popcorn

I'm going with the dimples being enough. OK, no, but the power game, and the bravery she showed today, and Serena feeling the pressure. Seriously, Serena has shown nerves this tournament, and Garbiñe has brought it to her before. Likeliest is that Serena overpowers the first time finalist, but, if Muguruza is really brave, and Serena is nervous, an upset could happen.

The one thing I can guarantee is win or lose Serena is probably not playing the Swedish Open.

After winning tomorrow and before USO starts, I hope Serena loses at least once in some warm-up tourneys to relieve herself of the stress before the CGS quest starts.

Well if Muguruza is to score the upset she will have to do so in straights. All of Serena's defeats have come in straight sets in slam finals. Serena is undefeated in third sets this year, and there is no tie break. I trust Serena's serve more than Muguruza's serve in those situations.

I am sorry to say, but Serena is a step above everyone else. It goes to show you that focusing on your fitness, improving your game and playing tennis can make you and take you above everyone else.

There are many talented players on this tour Kvitova, Azarenka, Muguruza, and many more, but Serena just has so many different gears. Serena is on another level with her approach and play. If she is the only good player today, then she would have surpassed Graf a few years ago.

She can be beat, but her resolve and fight is that much stronger. Sometimes heart is all you need to push on and summon your best tennis. There are many talented women who have played their best and still lost. Azarenka played her best just a few days ago clean numbers from both women and still lost.

While I do think Serena naturally has a really muscular body I think another thing Serena shows is how much developing really strong fitness routine around building muscle can do to give you power. Still the second part of that equation is controlling that power. Another example of a muscular player who's had some success is Stosur. I really think more players should develop that body type.

He has earned the right to talk. He is always honest and keeps it about the tennis, so I don't understand what the big deal is about Patrick talking about Serena and her tennis and other player's games. He is a commentator after all.

What is also worth noting when Sam and Maria won is that Serena was making her return to the tour after injury and surgery took her out. Not that it takes away from what they achieved.

he is an employee of Serena and goes about talking about his boss...this is a high stakes situation and any little morsel of info can be used against Serena. The Williams have always had a wall around their camp and that worked ...the ESPN box was getting too close to Sascha now they dont care about him....goodness knows why he was fired maybe Serena didnt trust him anymore....thank goodness Serena has the new two guys who seem media shy...very good additions

First, Patrick has talked before, and if Serena had a problem with it, he would not be talking about her to the press anymore. Obviously, she doesn't have a problem with it because he continues to speak freely to the press, so if she doesn't have an issue with it, I am not sure why some fans take issue with his talking to the press.

Second, Sascha gave an interview with ESPN this Wimbledon. I am sure you can dig it up if you so choose stating that he and Serena decided to part ways because he wanted more. You can't blame someone for wanting to take a step up in their career. Serena wasn't about to ditch Patrick and be like ok Sascha coach me. Vika approached him after she saw that he was not at Australia. He then accepted the job. Also why would Serena get coached by Sascha. What was he going to improve in her game? He was in her camp before Patrick, but it wasn't until after Patrick came on board that consistency and a more nuanced approach took shape. If he was serious about trying to coach Serena, he would have taken her to that next level before Patrick. I am not knocking Sascha because he was an integral part to her success, but it isn't like when he saw openings that he took advantage and tried to assert a stronger hold on Serena's tennis. Look at it as a career change l am sure that is how Serena looks at it.

Serena will win but it may be a struggle.. Its really depended on how she comes out serving and moving her feet. Its so hard to get your feet and match nerves in sync\harmony for a final.

Gp Sunday.. the whole Serena\Sascha break up has worked for both of them or rather hasn't really affected Serena.. It appears they have moved on
