Well I guess we will see what type of motivation this gives Serena. I can imagine Vinci won't like their next meeting.

Roberta doesn't care about their next meeting. Vinci is playing for grand slam.

Doubt she cares. She might win this slam at this rate.

Well this sets up one of the most boring grand slam finals in recent memory.

I'm sad to see this happen. It's almost painful. I feel for Serena and what she must she be feeling today.

I think Serena was having an off day and players like Vinci can give her trouble in general if they stay consistent and get lots of balls back.

Vinci was very charming in her interview. She played with great variety today!

The women needed this so much! If they had allowed "the old lady" to acquire a CYGS at her age, it wouldn't say much for them! The guys are still scratchin'; finally getting it done taking out Murray and Nadal this event! Nole and Roger are still in it, but at least they've proved to be overall best players this year! :clap  :dodgy: :popcorn

Who will want them, though? If Serena had won, the prices would have skyrocketed, but now? ...

What the heck happened? I was working and so did not see anything. At lunch time, I checked the score and it was 6-2, 2-1 with Serena up. I presumed everything will be fine. Just can't believe.

Did Serena self-destruct or did Vinci beat her?

I really feel sad for Serena: to have travelled so far only to fall at the next to last hurdle (and not to a top tenner, but to someone who Lord knows might not have got there had it not been for a W/O). Just not to be I guess, but at least you got Serena Slam No 2 - they can't take that way from you :)

Serena just commented in the "pressers" that Vinci "played out of her mind! She's 33 and just going for it!" She left very abruptly; was not happy! Vinci just played measured tennis; stayed within herself! She sliced and diced and got into the net! She really made Serena play and was able to hold her off after being down a break in the 3rd! :cover :p

In short, Serena's nerves finally overwhelmed her, and Vinci played bravely given the circumstances.

So there you go. Told you she wasn't winning the calendar slam.

Congrats Front, I think you are one of the few who predicted she won't achieve CGS.

Serena struggles at times you know. It just happened at the wrong moment against the wrong opponent, who was cool as a cucumber, closing it out at love. It was a stunning match really in every sense.
