Is there anybody who thinks that Stanimal has a slight chance ?

Stan always steps it up considerably at the slams, so who knows. His bad showing in Cincinnati does not mean much anyway. Last year he was unfortunate to meet an on fire Kei in the QF, so I expect him to reach at least SF this year, which would equal his best result there. Let's wait for the draw.

I think we'd be idiots to count Stan out of anything going forward. It's true he didn't look good in the recent warmups but then he didn't look great at the warmups to RG either.

Could Stan be the 1st player to have 2 Majors and still not get a sniff of being #!; probably not even end his season as #2? That would be really saying something in the OPEN era if that were to happen! :cover :nono  :dodgy:

Stan and Murray both have never been #1. I seriously doubt Wawrinka will ever get there or even get close. Murray on the other hand still has a chance in the next couple years.

It may take an effort like 2013 from you know who to finally wrestle that ranking from Djokovic.

There are some players on whom we can never bet. For an year Roger seems to be in great form but v have seen him losing matches on bigger stage. And about Stan he is always a surprise, a shocker! No one can b sure of when he ll mew and when he ll roar.. I have no idea of the US 2015 champion!

He had at least the good performance against Nadal in the Rome QF that indicated he might be a contender. But after the way he lost against Roger the next day and in Geneva the week after nobody expected much from him at RG. And before the Australian Open he won Chennai this year and last year, so it's not like his great performances at the Slams came totally out of nowhere.

I wouldn't completely write him off either but I think an early loss is more likely than Stan reaching the SF or going even further.

Roger wrestled it away in 2012 and came close in 2014. Hopefully we won't ever see another 2013 again :nono

What's everyone hoping for?

As a Rafa fan, I hope he finds some range in the early rounds, and maybe a great rabble-rouser of a scrap somewhere along the way to get his juices flowing. Then, if he gets the second week, the dream scenario is somebody like Berdy, or Mad Milos, then Fed, then whoever. I don't expect him to win it, of course, but I expect him to compete and put in a good showing, regardless of his form...

As a Murray fan, Avoid Dimitrov in the 3rd or later, Would like to avoid Wawrinka or Nishikori in the quarters, preferably Berdych or Nadal, then a rematch with Federer in the semis and Djokovic in the finals.

OR Djokovic in the semis and then a Wawrinka final would be interesting to see.

Just Win Murray. Win!

I think a Murray-Stan final could be a cracker. Stan has a good record against Andy, and they played three times already at Flushing Meadows. I'd actually fancy Stan to win a final between them, if Andy doesn't play his very best. You're also looking for him to avoid a lot of players. One word: Never! There's only glory in getting the job done, not in hoping others take care of it for you... ;)

I'd prefer the stress of watching a dogfight in the final, instead of a catfight in round one, but I think these days, beggars can't be choosers... :laydownlaughing

Yeah, we take what we get and embrace the thrill. But a nice, easy, straight set, loads of gluten-filled bagels, second serve aces, and absence of tie breaks would be a nice change.

Yeah, we're strange creatures. Before a big match, I love the build up, all the analysis and yap, highlights etc, then soon as the umpire says, "Play", I do anything but watch. I clean the house, go to another room and run around, crawl up the stairs on my belly backwards, anything but watch... :snicker

As a Rafa fan, I genuinely don't care about his draw. Won't make much of a difference. I'll settle for seeing him play decent for a change. He's not going to win it anyway so what the hell...
