OK, I'm impressed. I really thought Raonic would take it to Nadal after the trouble Nadal had last night. I guess I couldn't see the Raonic for all the Nadal. Straight sets over Raonic is good. While Nadal may not be back to the Top Four level, he certainly looks like he's at Berdych-Nishikori level now. Just in case you're wondering, that's good thing. :snicker

I'm hoping Rafa faces Stan next. It'll tell us little, whatever the result against Cilic, but a match against Stan would be a decent barometre of where things stand...

I never expected Raonic to win today. He is not back either to his best, before his injury. It will take some time for him too to be able to fight with other top 10 ^players as he used to a year ago.

I am almost surprised to say it but I really hope Rafa comes back at least close to form, as I'd love to see one or two more Slam final gruelfests with Novak before he leaves us.

So it's Rafa v Stan. Looks like Cough Drop gave Stan almost as much as he could handle...

Looks like a good mix of matches including a couple past champions! Nole is "killing" it; not dropping sets or many games! What's so amazing, I don't think he's played well in months! He barely got through Wimbledon with Anderson on the rise! Either he's being superhuman and so above them all or the rest of the tour is falling fast! They just don't look good against him these days! I've been very impressed of late! ;-)

Rafa rising! I am willing to condone Rafa's wins against Ivo and Milos. But, I would really be worried if he wins against Stan. :snicker

I haven't seen the match but reading here and there I see that Rafa has played very good and with some new tactics which are helping him a lot. Usually this is the worst stage of the year for him but this year seems to be the opposite playing better than the previous months
I'm packeting to go to NY today but this time for vacations and visiting my family. Of course I will follow the tournament and hope to see more and more improvements from him even if he wouldn't win but at least recovering more and more his superb game and be ready for the 2016 which is his goal
Vamos!!!!!!!

OTH, if the courts weren't as slowed down as they have been, the metronome boys wouldn't be dominating the hard court season, and we wouldn't have to watch endless, interminable, and often boring rallies in the new game called retrieva-ball. Molasses looking for a hill to climb up is faster than most of these courts now.

This in response to nehmeth's post:
People complain and wonder why the courts are being slowed down. I blame the racquet technology and the big servers. Really if the courts were as fast as they used to be, these guys (Raonic, Cilic, Anderson and....), would dominate the hard court season. A whole lot of boom-boom with no rallies would send the fans back to the WTA just like it did before.
For some reason I can't get it to do anything useful after I hit the quote button

Switch to badminton or squash then. :)

If you hung in with tennis during the fast court days, I think I can stay with it and hopefully see the cycle come back around :D

I actually like to watch squash by the way. In those days though, I was watching the WTA with Lindsey, Jennifer, and the gang. Some excellent matches and rivalries back then. Can't say the same now. :cover :nono

Tomic defetas Gasquet ;)

Anybody watched the match? That last game took forever, I was watching the scoreline and Bernie wrestled away the game from Richie, who was serving to stay in the match.
Richie had 40-15, then it got to deuce and from there it went back and forth each of them having numerous game points (Bernie's were MP)

Good job for the Aussie # 1:clap

Last game had a lot of twists and turns... Tomic hung in there, and avoided the tiebreaker. :snicker

By the way, a happy beneficiary of Tomic's win is Anderson, who needed to go one round further than Gasquet, to preserve his #10 ranking, because he was losing some points from last year this week, slipping below if he was getting equal points with the Frenchman

Schedule for upcoming quarters:
http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/scores/current/shanghai/5014/daily-schedule

Murray and Berdych are 6/6 in their h2h. I think Murray takes this one handily.

With the others:
- Ralf beats Stan
- Anderson takes down Jo
- Nole end's Bernie's run.

I think it depends on which Stan shows up. I think Stan wins, and brings good tennis to the table against Rafa.
