Kudos to Novak, he smoked Nadal, humiliated him on his best surface. Scary to think what would have happened in say, Miami or AO.
I hope you are happy GSM, Britbox and others, his retirement is knocking on the door. He will be pressured more and more about his losses, and will eventually crack.
The king is not only dead, he is burning in a crater. The only thing he has managed to do is ruin his win percentage on tour for the last few years. Same goes for Federer. Disgusting.
Happy birthday you cheap bastard, I hope this will be your last one on tour.

Wow! I guess you're a bit emotional right now. But Rafa is about more than just a win percentage surely. He's not done yet. Why would he be? It's just one match, nobody died as Boris said. Now we'll see again what sort of a fighter Rafa is. Some of his best periods have been after adversity
Lord knows I'm no Nadal fan, but this comment from PuppetMaster is quite distasteful.

Sorry, but you get that with excessive winning! I mentioned yesterday how I lived through Martina Navratilova's run in the 80's where fans were openly hostile and tournament sites weren't very accommodating due to her winning almost everything in sight! I think people were genuinely sick of Rafa winning this tourney and they welcomed the change; unfortunately with a little shade added as we kick him off the grounds of RG! :cover :nono :dodgy:

Not soon enough it is. And yes, I am quite happy today, seeing Rafa get creamed like that made me untuck my shirt to hide the excitement

Yuck! TMI...Jeepers, Darth. :laydownlaughing

Also both Rafa and Roger will for sure win a few more. In Roger's case hopefully Cincinnati later this year :D

If Nole does win RG, that's the only significant piece of hardware missing from his collection, yes?

No, He is missing Olympic Gold (which Rafa has but Roger does not).

But, Nole has Bronze and Rog has Silver.

Are we giving significance to Olympic gold? I mean, I say this as a Rafa fan, but I see it as an abomination in the tennis calendar, a usurper, not a real event, a vainglory...

I wouldn't exactly put it that way, but I agree that the Olympic medals are anomalies and bonus points, and Novak will be passing the point where he needs "bonus points," if he wins the career Slam, this year or another.

Novak winning the remaining masters title at Cinci would be a much bigger deal than winning gold in Rio.

Hopefully :snicker That's where Roger's poor ROS doesn't matter so much on the faster surfaces if he builds a big enough lead for it not to matter.

But both of those things are slightly precious, if you think about it...by which I mean more a concern for us nerdy fans than for the big picture. Cincy just gives Novak the "box set" of MS, which is sweet and tidy, but...whatever. He will probably pass Rafa in the # of MS, which would be much bigger, no matter which they are. But it begs remembering that the MS were not consolidated until some 30 years ago, nor did tennis rejoin the Olympics until about then, so both things you mentioned are more flourishes than legacy-makers, and I've always said that about Nadal, particularly as relates to the Olympics. Davis Cup, too.

First at all I don't think Novak was dominating in 2012, 2013 and 2014 (someone has said that he is dominating since 2011)
2011 he was surprisely improving his game and winning almost everything, this year he is playing very good (I can't say the same about the others) but he still has not won the RG, I think there is a player who can give him a tough time named Murray who doesn't get so much attention but the way he is playing could change the predictions and some dreams. I'd love to see a final between him and Tsonga, I think the Stadium would collapse ;)

A few years ago, it looked like these 3 players would end their careers symbolically of their OM's:

- Roger and Nadal interchangeable with the GOLD and Silver; 1st and 2nd in ATP history
- Nole pulling up the rear with Bronze and in 3rd place ahead of Laver, Sampras, Borg, & Lendl

(just musing)

Laver, Borg and Lendl never played at the Olympics. Sampras once (3rd round.) What are you actually musing about? And what makes Nadal and Federer interchangeable?

Well, yours was certainly more creative, bile-filled and less-gross. Does that make you feel better? And now that you've had some time to reflect, any revisions?

I said it was symbolic; mon dieu! I'm quite aware of Olympic history and would have preferred they left tennis out; esp. the pros! As for Nadal and Federer's status; Federer owns most of the records, has the most majors, and could defend titles off the clay surface! Nadal's only edge is that the match-up with Roger was very favorable and he owns him on all surfaces! :nono  :dodgy: - He won't be able to say that about Nole in the coming months and years! :clap  :dodgy:

Honestly, is there anything left to be said about today's fiasco? I went overboard with the comment, but he did humiliate himself on his favourite court. It sends chills down my spine when I start thinking about the rest of this season. Winning Wimbledon outright wouldn't fix the issue.

Jaysus, you never ever answer a question, or explain your strange declarations, even when asked. You just keep rambling on with your own free-associations.

Nadal has more edge than his H2H with Roger, as to legacy. He's had a positive H2H with almost everyone he's ever played, for one. Don't make me give you his resume, which you know, and is not shabby, even if you want it be. You're not playing with a winning hand, here.

Actually, winning Wimbledon would. You're hyperventilating. I wouldn't call the loss today v. Djokovic a "humiliation," given the form of each. As much as I was hoping it would go differently, it was not unexpected. If Rafa played long enough, it was rather an inevitability that he would lose at RG again, and he lost to the best player in the world, at the moment. No indignity, really. Better than Soderling, eh? Getting back to winning form absolutely would make things better. Lose RG, but win Wimbledon or the USO? I'm sure Rafa would be pleased. I would, anyway.

You had a moment of honest emotion... no need to dial back because of posters harping. Heck, Darth has thrown Fed under a bus with greater spite, and I don't remember them getting after him. It was a very bad day in the last safe place Rafa had. You had every right to let it rip.
