Well said Andy! Doesn't matter the sex or race or whatever of the coach. If they help you get better job done! Almost makes me want to support him :D

I think the role of coaches is often a bit overrated. They certainly do matter, as evidenced by Lendl's impact on Murray, and Todd Martin's impact on Djokovic (though that's the wrong sort of impact), but it's too easy to see a player get a new coach, struggle and blame it on the coach. Murray wasn't trying to play any different last year to the way he always did, and he didn't try to play too differently this tournament to the way he always did. Of course there are minor adjustments here and there that make a difference, but ultimately, it boils down to the player and his execution. Last year, Murray just wasn't ready having come off the back surgery, now he's revitalized. It's not that he and Mauresmo finally found a winning formula, nor were they attempting a losing one last year.

What a point. Oddly enough, I still think Murray would need to be even more aggressive if he is to play Djokovic. I honestly think this won't get the job done.

And Djokovic will have to be more aggressive than ever versus Wawrinka :popcorn

Agreed, but I think Novak has that in him, on most days, whereas Andy often doesn't.

As long as the player feels the coach is contributing positively that's all that matters. Too difficult for us to judge from the outside. Normally it's very difficult to identify areas coaches actually improve. Lendl made a clear impact for Murray, Edberg has made a positive impact on Roger's volleys. Tougher to say what Boris has done for Novak, but what matters is that Novak THINKS Boris has helped

Murray dismissed Vallverdu and stuck with Amelie. Interesting article. Guess Amelie is working for him.

I think Murray delivered more forehand winners with Lendl.
But that doesn't mean he can't win a slam title with Mauresmo.
Temperament/demeanor-wise he looks perhaps more confident than ever.

Has anyone ever lost four finals in the same GS tournament and never win it?

Borg at the U.S. Open maybe? Rosewall at Wimbledon? Sure hope Murray doesn't join that elite group. haha

Sigh.. I wouldn't begrudge Murray the title, but I must confess... of the 3 players left my order of preference would be:

Stan
Novak
Andy

can't help it..

Whatever happens in the Final,i'm sure many tennis players would love to be in the Final, how many tennis players never make a Slam Final.Does not hurt the pocket being in a Slam Final.

I went back to sleep after Murray broke for 4-2 in the 3rd because that was obviously the match then. I was impressed with Murray's aggressive play, definitely the most aggressive we've seen him since winning Wimbledon. He will need that vs. Nole. If it's against Stan he'd probably have to be pretty aggressive too. Rooting like hell for whoever wins Stan-Nole but it's good to see Murray playing well, makes things more interesting.

As for Berd, I think he lost that match at the end of the 1st set even though he won it. If he had closed it out at 6-3 he would have entered the 2nd set playing very well after 40-45 minutes. Instead he played an ugly game, got broken and had to play an extra 40 minutes to pull out a tiebreak after Murray's level dropped too. Even when he won that 1st set the momentum was shot and his game had fallen off. He got it back a little at the start of the 3rd and I assume he played an OK 4th but it was too late. Murray started playing well and dictating more and Tomas' serve went erratic. Too bad.
