Muzz has to win this AO, he needs it very badly for strength his confidence and he will in four :p

I didn't see the Novak-Wawrinka match but I've read from different sources it wasn't a good match, both players didn't play so well but someone had to win, isn't?

They would have destroyed the average player, but against each other, it was a little lackluster and could have been a lot better! That 5th set tells it all; no classic here! :p :nono :s

Carol,
5 setters are always good, doesn't matter if they are messy. Anytime a defending champ gets knocked out, it's good!

the posters here wrote 14 pages of comments, it must have been good.

GS semis and finals always are interesting for the posters and more if their fav is playing but it doesn't mean that those matches always are well played or very competitive, it depends how those players play.
We'll see how the final goes, hope to watch a very interesting match :popcorn

I didn't last past the 3rd set! Woke up to find it went 5 unnecessarily! Nole was awful in break point opportunities from the beginning! Shocking really! He tends to make his job harder than it 'shb!' :cover :nono :cry

Am I off to think that Djokovic has a lot more to lose? If he loses this, he will have a losing record in Grand Slam finals. He is always there but can't quite finish the job on too many occasions. If he has any hope at all of approaching Nadal's GS record, he's better start. If he loses this one, his favorite and most successful GS, I would start wondering if he is even going to win 10 GS before the young guys start taking over. Djokovic needs this more than Murray. Murray might get a couple more slams somewhere but I don't think his legacy is going to top the Courier-Hewitt level. Djokovic on the other hand is on the cusp of entering Borg-Sampras-Nadal territory but he needs to stop dropping these finals and semifinals.

Currently, Agassi, Federer and Novak has 4 AO trophies each. If Novak wins this one, he will
be in sole possession of this record. Rafa is already in sole possession of RG trophies record.
On the other hand, Rog is not in sole possession of any individual GS trophy record
(although he is tied with others in three of the four GSs).

So, I am rooting for Andy. :devil

Are you referencing my old thread concerning the GS trophies? IMO Nole already owns this trophy by virtue of winning it 3 years in a row! Supposedly that hasn't been done on the men's side in the OPEN era until he performed it 2011-13! - :clap - http://www.tennisfrontier.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=737 -

I would not say Novak owns AO just based on three consecutive wins; if he wins this one,
I am willing to say that though.

Actually, I disagree with you on this one. I would say that Murray is the one who has a lot more to lose than Djokovic. The reason I say this is because Murray is 0-3 in Aussie finals. If Murray loses this Sunday, then there is really good chance that he might never win this title in the future. Meanwhile, Djokovic already has 4 Aussie titles. Also, I hate to say this but I don't see Djokovic winning 13-15 majors. I could see him winning 10-11 majors easily (which is not bad at all considering he was sandwich between Federer and Nadal). The reason I say that Djokovic could easily win at least 10 majors is because he is the most consistent player right now in the tour. I mean since 2011, he has won 6 GS titles, has reach 12 Slam finals (including this Sunday) and has reached 16 Slam semifinals. I mean that is amazingly good. And what's scary is that he doesn't look like he is slowing down even though he is almost 28 years old. That's why I'm not worry about him winning at least 10 majors. The only thing that could stop him from winning 3 more majors is injury. And unlike Nadal, he rarely gets injured so I don't expect him to get hurt.

In addition, even if Djokovic loses this Sunday, he still pretty much could win the other 3 majors for the next couple of years. Meanwhile for Murray, he is not guaranteed to win the other 3 majors (especially RG).

The only title that could really enhance Djokovic's legacy at this point is winning Roland Garros. I mean winning a 5th Aussie Open title is special in a way because he will have the most Aussie Open titles in the Open Era but winning Roland Garros and completing the Career Slam is really the only missing piece in his cabinet.

Doesn't bother me personally if Novak holds a record number that exceeds Roger as I just find little to like in Murray in terms of personality and his muppet bride to be doesn't help that with her recent antics. In terms of game only his aggressive forehand that he uses for about 10 minutes per match are aesthetically pleasing so I'll be hoping Novak wins. That said it's a tough one this time imo for Novak to win, especially with the 5th set match against Stan. Plus I find way more positives when it comes to Novak in general.

Murray would need a really solid serving performance, and more importantly, he needs to hit his forehand aggressively in order not to get dominated in the forehand cross court exchanges. His inside out forehand actually does damage against Novak as it is hit flat and hard (not necessarily with too much angles) and forces Novak to get on the defensive.

The other advantage Novak has in the rallies is his superior ability to change directions and go up the line. Murray's forehand when he goes down the line isn't hit as hard and he tends to put more spin on it, but worryingly, his down the line backhand has disappeared.

Obviously Djokovic will need to play better than he did in the semi, but I mean, he can't play much worse so that's almost a given. I'm interested in seeing how much Djokovic takes advantage of Murray's second serve. I don't think his returning has been too off the charts this tournament yet, but I've seen matches in which Murray can almost literally not win a second serve point against him.

Djokovic in 4, but rooting for Murray, who's been playing well, and it actually wouldn't surprise me to see him win.

I think there's been a little over-reaction to Kim's f****** outburst. But the trend of relatives in the box becoming irritants has been growing. The rowdy Djokovic's were put in their place by Roger, Mirka has been noticed muttering f****** darkly, even uncle Toni - believe it or not - once irritated an opponent. The big surprise is why it took so long. Not everyone has the class of Borg's players box, where for fear of upsetting his concentration, Lennert Bergelin and Mariana Simonescu sat as if carved in marble.

Of course, another side of it is that the media are scanning these players boxes more intently for a story. Trust me, Kim's outburst is a common occurrence in all the player's boxes during big matches...
