I think Novak wins in four. I can't say I am looking forward to this as observer...

:puzzled :s :nono

On a couple levels for us RB - the matchup itself and as Novak fans. Had I watched the whole semi live, I probably would have plucked my eyes out.

Dont worry I plucked my eyes out for you...;) going into the 5th set I thought Wawrinka had all the momentum,of course he self destructed before my already plucked out eyes....;)

Seeing 5th set now and Stan just wore down; feet stopped moving to the ball! It was all Nole after the 4th set! :nono Glad I passed out after the 3rd! My nerves would have been fried seeing Nole drop another set with a break; dropped serve twice to lose it again! Shades of Wimbledon last year! I guess that says something that he can win even sub-par; not taking anything away from Stan, but this is still new to him! :dodgy: :p

We all have a good idea what this final will look like...

Hopefully, with his string of wins against (post Lendl) Murray, Novak will play with more confidence and without the nervous errors that prolonged his semifinal by two sets.

Novak in four.

Slightly worried tbh. Murray looks more composed than I have ever seen him, and the losing his head part has helped Novak in the past.

Why has Kim Sears not yet received a ban for rod laver arena btw?

When you consider Stan had a break in the first set? if he had won that 1st set,he would have been in the final trying to defend his title, frankly it was a most disappointing s/final,not a clean match from either player quite frankly,to sum it up...Weird.

Did you see last years match between these two? Quite frankly it was to be expected.

You can say the same about Nole winning in straight sets with break opportunities abound from the very beginning of the match! Never seen him waste so many of them! :puzzled :s :cover

Exactly, well put. It should have been over after the fourth. Absolutely horrendous bp conversion especially in the fourth.

It should have been over in 4, but Nole has this happen to him again and again; '12 AO final, '11 USO, and of course last year at Wimbledon again Federer! It's not like he makes mistakes, but somehow his opponent hangs in their and breaks to take it to 5! :cover  :dodgy:

I'd be composed too if my opponent imploded for a bagel after winning the first set. We'll see how he does in the final... and if Mauresmo can elicit the same steely resolve from Murray that Lendl did.

Thinking ol' Boris will make Nole watch his semifinal w/ Stan for homework. Doubtful we'll see the same poor production in the final.

Yes I did,I really thought this time Nole who has been playing unstoppable tennis, would win the match in 3 sets, thank goodness I was correct and said Novak in 5 sets.I dont know what was ailing him some parts of this match, cause it wasnt hot or humid. Some of his ufe had me scratching my head at times, very unlike Novak. To his credit he stepped it up in the 5th set.

Andy has been awful in those previous finals, but this one should be quite competitive from the form I've seen so far from him! :eyepop :popcorn

This is their 5th Slam final meeting. They are tied 2-2 but Djokovic is 2-0 here against Murray.

This is a tough match to call. Even though Djokovic is a 4-time champion, I think Murray has a great chance to finally win his 1st Aussie Open. He is playing very well and he is very pumped up in this tournament. You could tell he really wants to win this title to prove his doubters.

I think the key for this match is on how well Murray defends his second serve. If he could defend his second serve well, he has a chance to win the match. Also, in my opinion, he needs to win the 1st set. If he loses the first set, then he will not win the title.

Prediction: Murray in five tough sets.

Well he was last year too until the QF. oddly enough his movement seemed a bit off. That is what I did not expect.

No one punishes 1st and 2nd serve returns like Nole though! If Andy gets a little shaky on his 2nd, I'll say Djokovic in 4, but it won't surprise me for it to go 5! Nole didn't have it last night! :nono :cover

The only point you must win is the last, i don't beleive in this fist set must win stuff, it's defeatist.

I know but it can be a psychological advantage/disadvantage for a player if he or she wins/lose the first set.

I just think Djokovic is more than likely to win the match after losing 1st than let say Murray winning the match after losing the 1st set.

That's why if you play Djokovic or any members of the Big Four you try your best to win the 1st set. Yes, it doesn't mean you automatically win the match if you win the 1st set but it does give you a better chance to win the match than losing the 1st set.
