Roger takes this. Raonic will keep the sets close but I can't see him winning the match. For all the issues people are saying that Roger will have with Raonic's service game - I'd bat that back with the the trouble I think Raonic is going to have getting into Roger's service games.

True but at the same time as long as raonic returns fed is susceptible to a few shanks and there goes a break for raonic.

Fair point.

Consider this: Milos Raonic finds himself in the semifinals of Wimbledon facing the Roger Federer. The body of Centre Court and those outside will be firmly and loudly rooting for Fed. If the kid can hold his composure and pull off a win in those situations, he deserves it. I just don't think he will.

Kyrgios is a big server. Milos managed to get into many of his service games and get break points and breaks... I think his return game has improved a lot. He is picking his spots better.

And he is a very calm guy. I am not sure the crowd is going to rattle him too much.
I think Roger will have to go get it...Milos will not give it to him.

I agree. I think Roger will get the W, but do not expect this to be routine at all. "The Roger Federer" has shown years of vulnerability, and milos is well into the top 10 at this point. Are the semis new territory yes, but it's something that I guess he expected to be happening nowish. Don't get me wrong. I can't stand raonic, but dont discount that serve and an every improving attack game. Roger will be in for a real fight. The scary thing is, raonic does not have to break roger to win, but my guess is he will get at least one break.

Um, I watched both matches. NK was a shadow of the guy he was Tuesday. Roger played well and should be fresh and ready by Friday. Yes, Raonic is a calm kid. And this is the semifinals of Wimbledon - I can agree the crowd may not rattle him, but please don't tell me the import of the place and the moment won't affect him.

even if fed manages to lose here or finals i feel like as long as he can continue to make quarters and semis he'll still have a chance at a major. but wimbledon is his best surface to do it obviously

Raonic was serving bombs today, as you'd expect. He'll be a real threat to Roger but when it comes to the crunch, I don't think he's quite ready to knock out the maestro in a Wimbledon semi final.

My prediction: They split the first two sets, probably a tie break each, Roger finally figures out a way to break late in the third and takes control from there, winning in four.

A few sets will probably end up going to a TB here. At the end of the day, it's how you perform on the big points. This could be a straight set win for Federer or a 5 set loss.

Yep. On the set of Apocalypse Now when he was going crazy during the absolutely barbaric production. I recently watched the documentary Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse, and it's amazing how chaotic everything was. Coppola gave his entire life to the project - seldom do you see such dedication. Just an amazing cinematic effort.

Yea this is a five setter I think. Feds days at trivially taking out giants are long gone, and he has been susceptible to being simply blitzed off the court. Still the s/v, the block back returns and the slice is going to drive Raonic nuts so I think Roger takes it, but then again he might lose in three really easy sets.

Tall Man Dipping.

Agree with this, too. Milos in his first major semifinal, playing on Wimbledon's storied Centre Court, with Roger Federer across the net. That's a lot. For Roger, this is a familiar, comfortable situation.

I'll be somewhat daring, and go with Roger in 3.

I wonder if a helpful mod might be able to edit the poll so we can see who voted and which way, please?

Cheers!

Done.

Thanks T! I'll get the hang of it by the USO, but I'm sure Rafa will still be involved then, so I won't be needed... :p

Roger in four, with two tiebreaks. It will be tight all the way through though.

If both serve and return at their current normal level there probably won't be a lot of break points in this match. Then it would be decisive who does better in the few important points or the tie-breaks.

I think Federer in 4 is the most likely outcome, but anything than a straight set win of Raonic wouldn't be too much of a surprise to me.
