Nadal/Rosol rematch on the cards for Round 2

lol at that one. :snigger hope it happens, would be fun and I might even watch it.

Tough draws for Novak and I guess also for Rafa. Cupcakes for Roger and Andy.

I'm skipping this event btw. Watching the world cup in my free time and I have no high hopes for Novak this time.

Thanks for that, fellers!

Roger v Stanley Wow! is a potential quarter-final, but Benneteau looms for Roger, an interesting (but presumably straight-forward) replay of their match from 2012, when the fright and excitement of Rafa losing to Rosil almost caused Jolly Roger to lay an egg, drop a calf, and so on.

Rafa's corner will receive the most scrutiny, especially with the prospect of a potential re-fight with Rosil, but Lukas has Benoit Paire to get past first, and Rafa is no gimme in the first round. Third round? Dr Evil himself, gigantic and serving icicles from above the clouds.

I think Andy Murray has a good quarter, nobody sticks out for me, and then he may face Grigor, the personification of the next generation, and holder of the trophy at Queens.

Novak might face Pospisil or Haase in round 3, Tsonga - who he destroyed in Paris - in round 4, and Berdy in the quarters. Nothing that should cause him to drop so much as a single set. But Stepanek in round 2 might be more interesting.

The first round matches I'm most looking forward to are Youzhney-Ward (who I like), Melzer-Tsonga, and of course, Rafa.

This could be a good draw for Rafa if he's found his grass legs. The threats are explicit, there's no room for complacency and he knows he must serve well and start fast to get out of the first three rounds. If he does, then he might be a prospect to watch for... ;)

Holy crap, Novak has it rough. First round is easy, then probably Stepanek in 2nd round, Simon or Pospisil in 3rd round - all do-able. But then he's got possibly Tsonga in the 4R and Berdych in the QF, before facing Murray in the SF. Nasty.

You'll be missed. Try to stop by when you can. Otherwise, enjoy the football. :)

Can't believe you're downsizing, Denis, to watch football over Wimbledon. :nono ;)

But it is a great World Cup so far, let's hope Wimbo is great too. Don't be writing Nole off just yet, either, it's the most open Wimbo in years....

Nadal needs to get through the first 3 matches and he should then seal the deal

I've got to favor Nadal for this one. Novak's road through Tsonga, Berdych and Murray is just too rough. Rafa's draw is comparatively easy. I don't expect Rosol to take him out twice. Karlovic? Probably not. Monfils could be interesting, as could Nishikori or Raonic. And Roger or Stan? No problem.

Wait - Tsonga is tough? When? Where?

Berdy? By then Nole will be rolling.

I think the toughest match Nole faces before Berdy is Rad the Impaler, but otherwise it's a saunter, more or less. And it could be Grigor in the semi, he's bound to be a huge threat to Andy if they meet.

Rafa's first few rounds are speculative at this point, until he actually plays. He dropped a set against Klizan in Paris last year, on clay. It's not a given he makes this one...

It's priceless, very tricky hand of fate, can't wait to see this "revenge"

Well to put it another way, here are the paths to the F through the highest seeds:

Djokovic: Golubev, Stepanek, Pospisil, Tsonga, Berdych, Murray
Murray: Goffin, Andujar, Bautista Agut, Fognini, Ferrer (or Dimitrov), Djokovic
Federer: Lorenzi, Benneteau, Granollers, Janowicz (or Robredo), Wawrinka, Nadal
Nadal: Klizan, Paire (or Rosol), Karlovic, Gasquet (or Monfils), Raonic (or Nishikori), Federer

Of those four, I think Novak has it the roughest. Murray's is relatively easy, as is (or should be) Federer - at least until the QF. Nadal has a few possible hiccups but really should make it to the Final.

I'd even go so far as to say that Murray might be the favorite in his half, and I don't favor Andy over Rafa in the Final at Wimbledon. Maybe in the first week, but not after two weeks of matches on that grass.

I actually fancy Grigor over Murray at this stage, if they meet.

I'd like JJ to get to play Federer and bring his disrespectful, lambasting and loudest play with him...

I am with Kieren. It's an ugly draw on paper, but tsonga would have to turn around a good year of slipping to have a shot. Novak kinda owns Berdych... No evidence Pospisal knows what he is doing on grass. I think I would be more afraid of Raonic, Isner, or Dimitrov than Tsonga right now. My initial reaction before coming to the boards was that Novak has a decent draw (outside of Murray). Nobody there who really has the mind to pull the upset (assuming Novak has mentally and physically recovered from what must have been a draining FO campaign).

I would not be at all surprised if tsonga doesn't make it to the round of 16.

That's really helpful to have it laid out like that, Dude. Thanks.

I think Federer has the toughest draw. Benneteau gave him a fit here a couple of years ago, and now Roger's two years older. Janowicz: if he's serving well enough, he could be trouble. Wawrinka: it's still grass, but he'll have confidence after the MC final, and want to prove himself against Fed in a major. And then there's Nadal in the semifinal. Tough draw for Roger.

^ Completely disagree. I think it is a great draw for Roger with the lone exception being the semi of course. This would be a total dream if he got Djokovic in the semis. Jerzy has not played well since this time last year so I wouldn't expect much from him. Stan has never done anything on grass, wouldn't expect him to make the QF and wouldn't be too afraid of him if he did. The only thing I'm seeing is a somewhat tough 2nd rounder that Roger should know the danger of after 2012.

Well, you don't completely disagree, then, if you concur with the Benneteau and Nadal rounds. And I also made a special note about it being grass in terms of Stan, which you also mentioned.

Benneteau is 2 year's older too....I don't think he'll bother Youngderer again, not in 2014
