Kei in 3.

Firstly he plays big servers like Raonic, Tsonga, Berdych well - he will handle Cic's serve better.

Most important, Cilic will come under pressure but Kei does much better in this aspect. He might be a little nervous but when it matters he will dig deep. He will be too quick to Cilic too.

Can't wait to see a new Slam winner it's a good thing.

Change of guards or just USOpen owners nightmare ?

Vote for Samurai

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. The sponsors/advertisers who have poured countless millions of dollars into Federer and Novak must be inconsolable.

Well, I think Uniqlo was happy that either way one of their guys was going to be in the final.

Nike? Not a happy camper.

Oops! Good point.

They have to simply bill it as a changing of the guards 'cos they want to divert attention away from the obvious screw up they made with the whole Cilic ban debacle.

I haven't seen a shot struck in anger, this year. Been away buffing up the tan. Seriously, you'd wanna see how I glow. Been on an island in the Med, bronzing and pieballing the beach fare, drinking vino and hamburgers, and generally mooching about, tennis-free and chirpy.

So since I haven't seen any tennis, allow me to tell you what'll happen: it'll come down to serve, and if Cilic serves the way he apparently did against Roger, he'll win this one in three or four sets.

But I prefer Nishi. I love his attitude and I'm glad he's bookended his slam-year with strong results. I hope he wins, but I think Cough Drop takes it, and from all accounts, either one of them deserves it...

Welcome back Kieran. I knew you would come just in time ;)

An injection of new blood... it's good for the sport (sorry to see Fed go down today, as a fan) - but in the great scheme of things it's time for the younger guys to step up.

an injection of new blood ?. :laydownlaughing:lolz:

shhhh..cilic might think you are emitting a snide comment in his general direction. :snigger

One thing that might be a negative or a plus for Kei is that he's playing for Japanese pride. Numerous articles, like this one from the NYTimes tell just how big this is for Japanese fans. (And I believe, in fact, all of Asia.)

I think both will be nervous, and it'll come down to who handles it better, who's better on the day. But Nishikori, at the moment, does seem to really be a man on a mission. I hope he pulls it off.

Hopefully we'll see this tomorrow. Tears of joy, of course. :D

I'm going with my head, so I voted Cilic in four.

However, I would love for Kei to win it in a fifth set tiebreak, including something really dramatic, like saving a few championship points. He would finish the tournament with three of his final four matches having gone the distance, while taking down five seeded players in a row: Mayer (23), Raonic (5), Wawrinka (3), Djokovic (1), and Cilic (14).

Thanks, kskate2 - that final option is the one we need, since this match could happen any which way...

Things could change as the match is being played. But, as of right now, I phind myselph wanting Cilic to win. I don't dislike either guy, so I'd be okay with either of them winning.

Here we go, the final everybody expected, right?:laydownlaughing

Usually the guy who beats Nole ends up winning a major, but since Nole was so underwhelming in his semi final (I think the heat melted his brain), I am tempted to think that Cilic takes this. But who really knows. Both guys are in the uncharted territory now and whoever can hold their nerves better will win.

True, and I think it has the potential to be a great match, but I can't help feeling it's a slight anti-climax. And I accept that this is hypocritical, given that nobody has moaned more about the lack of spine among the field than me. Well, here we have two who stood up to be counted...
