Tented. I dont have a problem with your predicting Djoker.. Its been a tough year for Rafa but I am very encouraged about the way he hads picked up his level of play the past 6 sets at RG. As usual, I am sticking with (Batman, Dirt Devil, The Spanish Bull, The Clay Warrior or the Ultimate Competior, RAFA) over Djoker in 5. Djoker is going to have a baby and getting married(he will still have a fantastic Summer.

Hey AP,

I'd love Rafa to win this, of course, but there's simply nothing to base that on. Even the last six sets are a reflection on his opponents' low level of play, not a newfound great level on Rafa's part.

So...a Nadal/Djokovic final? Something that every reasonable human being should have seen coming? But I thought Nadal would lose to an "unknown player" and Djokovic won't be making the final either...

Well we got the final we all wanted

I hope it is a competitive final.

May the best player win.

( seeing my 2 favourite players are competing against each other....I Am Not Going To Predict Who Will Win).

When it comes to my faves, I don't mind a blowout! Sampras annihilating Agassi in his first USO in '90 was momentous and we didn't even know it! :clap :snigger :laydownlaughing

Bookies are giving a very slight edge to Nadal 10/11 to 11/10 Djokovic.

No, I disagree.. If Rafa thumps his opponents the last 6 sets, its more bad play is forced by Rafa.. Sure, Murray was no where near his best but this is his best two weeks at RG to the best of my memory. I think if the scores were 7-6 7-5 or 6-4 you may feel different but again its Rafa on clay at RG. I hope that both players have their "A" game for Sunday final..

The Capt. Obvious Maneuver doesn't always work.

Uh, just because something is obvious, doesn't make it any less true (that's the kind of argument a certain mutual friend would use).

Nadal is the defending champion and a an 8 time RG winner. Do I favor him on Sunday? No. But reading your posts, you'd swear Nadal was some scrub.

You asked a question that roughly translates to: Why AREN'T people writing Nadal off?

The fact that he's an 8 time champion is a pretty good reason not to. You asked a question, you got your answer.

The match will be more competitive than you're making it out to be, by the way. And keep in mind, I was the first one who initiated the "Nadal is not beating Djokovic" movement, a good month or so ago.

I guess it's really not worth betting unless it's a million dollars wagered! :snigger

I don't bet, but they are usually well informed, otherwise they wouldn't have a viable business-model.

You would get 2.1 million back for those million dollars wagered for Djokovic though, not a bad sum.

You sound like Kieran with use of the word thumped there but while Rafa played very well today, Murray was pretty appalling at everything and though Murray was terrible today, Ferrer's "efforts" in the last 2 sets of the previous match were even worse so it's not really a very apt description imo. Ferrer admitted he basically didn't even try so obviously the completely one sided scoreline reflected that. Murray tried harder but was just flat out crap at everything, ROS, his own service games and his shots were almost all hit way softer than Nadal's. He played pusher tennis most of the match. The few times he actually hit the ball with more pace he got a few winners as a result but mostly he just pushed the ball with no velocity. That would make it look like anyone "thumped" him. That said, Nadal's FH DTL was brilliant today. But you'd have to be mad to think Ferrer (after 4-4 set 2) and Murray played even remotely well so they both made Nadal look a lot better than he has in previous matches as a result.

That said, I'm not convinced Djokovic wins this at all personally as he didn't look too sharp mid match today. Gulbis screwed up as he clearly had a good shot at taking set 4 and Djokovic was looking physically weary out there.

I indicated last year that I thought Rafa would win one major in 2014, and that it would be on his beloved clay in Paris. Do I feel as confident of the prediction? I can't say I do, but he is at least there to duke it out with Nole. As long as you are there, anything can happen.

A lot will depend on backhand to backhand exchanges. Nadal wasn't tested on his backhand side at all today by Murray but his FH (banana DTL in particular) was on fire today. He wasn't tested at all in any department today actually. He won't get the liberty of letting rip on the FH wing as much as today if Djokovic plays up to potential.
