For good measure, Genie goes out as well after being bagelled in the 1st and 3rd sets.

p.s. I know this is Men's forum. But Genie was shown out by a Rogers and so. (he he)

That's a shockingly poor scoreline with a distinctive Kvitova-esque vibe.

and Shelby Rogers was ranked outside 100. Looks like Genie could not handle
the pressure of being homecoming queen.

Funny how some like Haas excel at home tournaments and others are worse than ever. I've made big bets with Haas winning at home tournaments such as Halle and Munich and yet some just can't win a single match.

With women, this phenomena is more pronounced; take Stosur at AO or Amelie at FO
They had their worst performances there.

^ True, Stosur's AO record is atrocious. Just keep betting every round for her to lose 'cos she will in the first 3 for sure. Shame, would like to see her do better.

Stan breaks and both guys are having a bit of a lapse now, but I was seriously enjoying some of the cross court backhand to backhand battles earlier. 5-2 for Wawrinka, looks like we'll be going three...

Stanimal still cannot be trusted. Had the break in 3rd, but has given it back. Now serving down in the deciding set 4-3

So Stan delivers in the third set tie break... Tricky test for him and good signs from Paire. Stan will have to improve a lot to contend these next few tournaments but at this stage it's all about getting the W.

Good stuff, Kyrgios! His match against Murray should be awesome. Obviously, I'm not expecting a victory or something, but I wouldn't be surprised if he really pushes Andy.

Here is the OOP for Wednesday in which all the remaining 14 second round matches are scheduled.

I see one or two upsets happening on the stadium (not the one you are thinking of).

Keep an eye on Fed's chip and charge in future matches. It looks like he was field testing it
today, even though he did not need it in today's matches.

However, he botched the execution of some attempts even today.

^ Not ever going to be effective against the big boys even if hit well. To be an effective approach shot against guys like Djokovic and Nadal you need to get them on the full run. Chip and charge gives them too much of a target and they will get to the ball with time to spare. Even the ones with decent depth usually won't get the job done.

Actually, Roger successfully executed chip and charge a few times against Novak in
Wimbledon final (see replay of first set in particular, that he won). But, I don't have the
stat of how many times he tried and how many times it worked. If it does not work
at least in 50% of attempts, one might say it is not a good idea; on the other hand,
it might actually help the overall game to mix it up.

Another interesting stat from Fed's match today is the break point conversion rate.
Fed had 100% conversion rate with 6 breaks in 6 chances.

Folks might remember that even against weak players, of late he was needing to
create a lot of break chances to get one actual break.

In view of that, it is a positive trend. But, I guess before I can use the word "trend",
we need to see whether he can keep it up at above 60% at least in the next match.

It should always work better for him on grass. On the cement, you don't want to get Novak hitting a backhand on the run. Without using Nalbandianesque angles you're just asking to be passed.

:puzzled

Roger's been in good form, but I don't know how much you should try to glean from his play against a guy who's played less than 40 matches at this level. He's spent pretty much his entire career in Challenger and Futures events. :nono

What it does say is just how badly JJ's game is sucking these days.
