That 5-4 game that Federer lost displays what is wrong with his game, or what he has lost as a player: killer instinct. When it really counted he just couldn't bring it, couldn't deal the death blow. Now he's likely facing a third set.

Anyhow, this is the main way in which I see Federer c. 2014 as a much lesser player than Federer c. 2004-07, even '08-'09. He doesn't have that same killer instinct. Maybe he's gotten soft and complacent in his old age? Too nice a guy?
