Superb week from Tsonga, of course he has arguably the best week of his entire career in the midst of his most invisible year since arriving on tour. Only Jo-Willy.

Really horrible performance from Fed, he only played well when facing break points. On one hand, there isn't much you can do when Jo is serving like he has this week but those numbers - 37 unforced errors - aren't going to win you big titles.

From start to finish, there was no question that Tsonga had full control of the match.
Completely deserved victory. Unbelievable first serve winning percentage of 95% or so.

Fed had to fight in two games for about 8 minutes each jus to hang on.

I am really happy for Tsonga (even though I would have been happier otherwise).

The commentators were discussing as to who was the last person to win a Masters
after beating 4 top 10 players. I did not get the answer. Who was it?

Anyway, Jo Tsonga has taken out four top 10 players in a row and thee of them
members of big four. Nothing is bigger than this for Tsonga.

Hope, he can maintain it, at least until USO.

It was Canas here in 2002. I posted it here http://www.tennisfrontier.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=2811&pid=123928#pid123928 Yeah, Jo played great. Some consolation that a guy I like won at least. Glad to see him back playing well. It's been a long time.

I didn't think JW would hold tight in the clutchy moments at the end of the second, but it seems he served well and kept Roger on the back foot. Very confident, it seems. Some twirl about since Paris...

He could still play well at Cincy Darth. That's his stomping ground anyway

A deep run here might compromise him at his much stronger tournament. At this point it might not be a good thing for Roger to go deep in Cincy. Regardless, he has just been easily beaten by Tsonga in a final and lost a huge one to Stan earlier. Maybe he could beat Ferrer in a big match but that'd be about it.

Darth really sees the silver lining.

What silver lining was I supposed to see here?

It's never let him down before... ;)

EDIT: Just in case a joke is mistaken for a nasty jibe, I wasn't being serious, of course...

The interesting thing with Tsonga this week is the way he's actually been combining his talent and power by thinking his way through points, and the backhand was actually looking pretty solid apart from the middle phase of his match against Andy. Can he keep it up? That's always been the question with Jo but he must certainly be considered as a serious dark horse for Flushing Meadows now that he's reminded us what he can (still) do.

I have not looked up the stat yet. But, Roger's backhand errors were numerous and
probably contributed more than 75% of his total UFE.

Well I must have blinked and missed it. Was there even a 3rd set against the #13 seed?

I was recently reading an excellent blog that felt that JW was a goner. The gist of it was true, which makes his run here all the more exceptional.

I still wouldn't bet too much on him at Flushing Meadows, if I was a gambling man. Totally different horse of an absolutely different colour...

Yeah, not even winning a set is a major fight alright. :laydownlaughing

Congratulations to Tsonga, what a week for him, beating all these awesome players. Didn't I say after coming back from Toronto that he might even win the whole thing? Still I voted for Fed in 3 because he is so savvy and Tsonga was not proven in the finals, but even though serving around 50% Tsonga held his nerve and that was another issue that Tsonga had to prove and he did.

Good result for Federer, he keeps playing and fighting, it is not 2006 anymore like some of his fans think and on a good day, any good player can beat anybody. I listened to Kevin Anderson's Q & A and that was one of the questions, the belief of lower ranked players when they play top guys. He said that there is more belief now than ever before that if they play well they can compete with all of them and occasionally win.

Well done Tsonga.:clap

A very intriguing coincidence was just mentioned here at our Canadian broadcast, when Jo won his first master in 2008 back in Paris he was also seeded 13!!!!
If there was ever a lucky 13 than Jo surely owns it!

Poor Kev must've believed he wouldn't have botched that match like he did. Feel very sorry for him, that was a terrible loss against Dimitrov. Gonna take a while to get over that.

Well that was after he dispatched of a slam champion and #3 seed here, so it does happen.:snigger

He didn't say that lower ranked players will always win now, he is not that silly, but it happens from time to time like we just witnessed here.;)
