Eh, Roger wasn't the average 25 year old, so why would he be the average 33 year old. Those who expected him to be bad at this age were not seeing things clearly. He has declined at as quick or quicker pace than most but he had a much larger hill to call down from. 2013 was the outlier...

Just to most posters on here in general who seem shocked that Roger is doing "so well" this year (for those who think he is).

Well, what are you comparing him to? Other 33 year olds? He's prolly the best 33 year old in the history of the sport.

His younger self? Rafa and Nole, who are 5 and 6 years younger?

What's your measuring stick?

Too lazy to look up. Can some one answer the following question.

Since 2005 FO, apart from Big Four only two folks won slams, viz., JMDP in 2009 USO
and Stan the Man in 2014 AO.

My question is what is the corresponding stat for Masters (the nine) during the same
frame. How many Masters were won by folks outside the big four since 2005 FO.

I can recall Nalby winning two, Stan winning one, Soderling winning one,
Tsonga winning two. Are there anyone else that I am missing? Did Roddick win
any during this time frame? Are there any other winners?

Ferrer won one too, in Paris. I'm a bit lazy to root about for others, but I think there aren't many...

I'm not comparing him to anyone. Just saying that how he is playing isn't surprising based on the heights he ascended to. if anything some might expect more like being able to dispatch chaps like Tsonga and Wawrinka in finals. Didn't Andre and others win slams at age 33?

This is what I am saying. He isn't gonna be perfect, that's it.

If no one else, that is 7 out of 82 masters by others or about 8%.

It is 2 out of 34 in Slams or about 6%

No, actually. Maybe Connors did, but it's extremely rare. This is a brutal sport and Fed has been at the top a ridiculous amount of time. You don't expect a little wear and tear, combined with opponents getting more daring?

I'll try to look it up, if no one else does. Good question. (Obviously, JWT was one in 08, too.) After I grade the Challenge.

Yeah I agree, however, you forget one thing, he is still bound to have bad days in the office. You already forgot the Nishikori and Chardy loses. Today was one of those. Losing to an outstanding JWT is not as bad as those I just mentioned. At his age, inconsistency is to be expected.
That said, he is way above the average 33 year old.
