Congrats to Rog and the all swiss final we all expected!

Bright side I did pick stan to make the final.

And by we you exclude yourself 'cos you voted Djokovic in 2 today ;):D

Roger will take it and it appeared that the wrist only started bothering him late in the 1st set. Very good serving which is always important vs. the elite and Roger also played a pretty clean match I thought. It will be interesting vs. Stan. I don't think this will be the same old Roger vs. Stan matchup. It is clearly a new Wawrinka.

Yeah, just joshing. Fed really won the first set, so it is a well deserved win.

And to think that Darth and I were wondering why Roger bothered to enter this tournament!

On that note, I genuinely wonder why Novak entered this given his wrist injury. Not a good idea.

You had to bring that up, I had plans to go back and delete that post :snigger

As for Novak I'd imagine that it was simply a bigger problem today than the other matches. The pain/stiffness or whatever probably flared up today and he was smart to mostly dump the 2nd set instead of risking further injury.

Well looked like Novak got pretty disheartened by the great play Roger played to save the breaks he faced at 4-5 when it looked like Roger was losing the set 6-4. After the huge hold to make it 5-5 I'd say it's pretty much 100% the great play Roger made in that previous game got on Djokovic's nerves and contributed to the two poor forehand errors where he gave away the break for 6-5 and then Roger served it out.

The tennis gods surely blessed Fed this week, even Roger couldn't have predicted a better outcome. Congrats to the Fed fans. After this week, I think only theon greyjoy(GOT) aka Reek has had worst luck.

Checking the weather here and it's actually warmer where I live than Monte Carlo right now. Surprising. In fact Moscow is warmer than Monte Carlo today :) My wife's aunt is coming to visit from Moscow in 10 days time and I was curious how the weather was there. Thought Monte Carlo would be warmer for sure.

I don't know what may have been going in with Novak in the second set, but I was surprised by how well Federer played, especially saving set points at the end of the first set. Roger is definitely stronger with his drive BH and he's moving better and, therefore, hitting his FH better when on the run or stretched to that side. He and his fans have to be quite pleased. Moving up to the bigger racquet may be helping him--this far into the experiment--more mentally against the elite players more than anything.

The bad wrist is playing a role.

Wait, you're allowed to bring that up? Because when people mentioned the Nadal back issue in the Wawrinka match at the AO, you scolded them for like a full month...

Good man, Roger, but really, Nole must have been off his game...

Yeah, Roger won that good first set fair and square--and had to fight for it. The second was an odd set; I'm not sure if it was a lower back or wrist issue, but Novak is still going to be tough regardless.

Saying bad wrist played a role is one thing (a reality that we could see) and saying that if not for the bad wrist Djokovic would have won today is another thing (and a hyptothetical no one
can speculate on).

Funny actually 'cos down here when you say someone is off their game it means they're a lunatic :laydownlaughing Maybe you don't use that phrase in Dublin :D "Your man's off his game!" :snigger

I agree with this. Novak played a fine first set. Nothing too terrific, but he was sharp enough, and had two points to take it. Federer saved both exquisitely.

Yes, but as we proved, nobody said that Rafa would definitely have won if his back hadn't snapped. You made that part up out of an urge to over-egg your gloating...
