Rafa's return wasn't too hot, either. After the first few games, he was woefully behind the pace. I think since Flushing Meadows, he's lacked intensity, bar the odd match here or there. Well, the battle has been joined and he needs to respond. Fortunately, he's quite good at that sort of thing...

maybe his best tennis cannot happen unless he is hunting someone down ?, like the 4 years he spent gunning for Federer in the rank charts and Wimbledon..and how rafa comes back to blitz djokovic in 2012-13 after being wasted by the serbinator in 2011.

maybe in rafa/wafa's head he needs to lose his no1 rank to get the intensity back again, then he can con himself into thinking he is be underdog again, no ?. :)

This has been said. I hope the clay prices otherwise. There's a lot of great drama to look forward to, either way. Both of these men are true greats, so let's enjoy it while it lasts... :)

Actually, Mastoor, I don't think much about you at all, either way. You're absent so often after Novak's defeats, it's getting easy to forget you...

Likewise, I just didn't think you'll so much hated to see me here, but then there's Denisovic and perhaps someone else who'll be also happy to see me

The rat has leapt upon the rising ship. Welcome back, Mastoor, where the hell were ya?! ;)

Ship has been rising in last 3 weeks, but I didn't have heart to tell you the result before the match ;)

But this was expecting wasn't it? Considering those 2 matches in November and also how well Nole played against Murray.

Of course you'd expect Nole to win. And I expected Rafa to win. And had Rafa won, you'd stay hidden away sulking.

So we should all be glad for small mercies...

:clap Honestly, you guys crossed my mind only half an hour ago. Do you want me to go or what?

I want you to do what you want to do. Honestly? It's nice to see you back, even if it's only until Nole's next calamity. Maybe you should be a more loyal fan, but if it's not in your nature, don't sweat it. Come as often as it suits you... :)

This place is not a gauge for loyalty, I perceive it more like your and Moxie's happy place. I watch Nole matches even if I don't come here. But I've heard whole lot about me from you, is there anything you can tell me about the match, about the rivalry, clay season that is around the corner, anything else tennis related?

shame it wasn't three sets though, whoever wins. with no semifinals an epic final would've made up a bit for the lack of late tourney tennis.

I would prefer to see Master's finals revert back to the best of 5 sets.

Is that so Rafa would look worse? Or Nole look better? ;)

^ This. @Mastoor: you're a member and you're welcome to drop in and out as you like. But please no more complaining from you that there isn't enough support for Nole on these boards, if you won't stay.

I just prefer the good old day's when Master Series finals were player the best of 5 sets

I feel it's only fitting.....just my thoughts.Regardless of the outcome of today's match up.

It would be exciting, as 5-setters are potentially the most dramatic, but I don't think it will ever happen. Generally, it favors Rafa and Novak, so I'm inclined, all-around. But too many of them stack up too closely, and then you risk the top guys bailing on the next one. No tournament wants that.

If Nole's support on this board depends only on my presence then it can't be huge. But I wouldn't mention it.

So, what is the point of view of Rafa fans after this tournament and before clay season? I don't even see BS point of view and he was never shy to voice his opinion.

It absolutely doesn't depend on your (non-)presence…we have very good and steadfast Nole fans here.
I'm just asking you not to complain of unfair treatment, which you have done…if you don't participate.

As to going forward: Good shot across the bow from Nole, obviously. Everything was clicking for him today, plus he's won IW. I think everything changes come clay, though Rafa, as nehmeth said on another thread, will be the hunted in MC…and going forward through RG. He defends finals points at MC, and championships everywhere else through the French. But he's always re-set his year on clay…except in 09, when he'd already won a Slam.

I'd say, given the ebbs and flows of form from both of the top 2, we'll just have to wait and see.

Must say, one thing I've noticed is whenever Djokovic beats Nadal there always seems to be a huge number of users online including 29 guests now who are too lazy to register!

Commiseration to my mate Kieran. I figure if you are not happy to accept congratulations you must be happy with commiserations.

Of course congratulations to Nole and my fellow Nole fans.

Wasn't that yet another perfect squishing of Nadal. Vamos-tamos is back, just in time for the clay court season.

Good to see you Mastoor. This match was a thing of beauty.

Well-spotted, Front. Hopefully we can bring in some of the shy ones. No fear, friends…we don't bite.

Well Moxie--you have to admit that you've been known to NIP on occasion :)
