Yeah,, I would have to agree with Rafa, the appointment is a bit odd.. too many ex great Spanish male candidates whom has been waiting in line, especially Carlos Moya(Rafa's pal)

In which bubble are you in? This woman was appointed to replace Moya who quit the job.

Obviously, I havent been living in the "Davis Cup bubble"... I had know idea that Moya was Spain's Davis cup captain.. He was the captain for less than a year

Really GSM, I couldnt name you 3 of the current DC captain if someone paid me to speak to their identities:cool:

^ Me either. I rarely have any interest in DC but this year it should be interesting and I'll watch the final for sure. Normally though the DC stands for don't care as far as I'm concerned.

ditto!

And to be clear, that doesn't mean I think it's important. I just know Roger would love to have it, so I'll watch. More to see if he can summon the requisite champions spirit

Yeah, I don't think DC is important one bit as it's a team event and not singles so you're dependent on so many other people but I'd like the Swiss to win mainly as it's something Roger would like to win. Not much of a fan of Stan though his backhand is class when on but I'm not the sort of person to like every player from a nation just 'cos one player I like is from that country. Couldn't really care less about the rest of the Swiss players to be honest even if that's harsh.

No problem. It just sounded funny when you said they should appoint Moya for the job
when in fact, they were trying to replace Moya. That's all.

Some of us who have been following tennis for decades, value Davis Cup over everything else.
I value Davis Cup over everything except for the 4 slam events (and now and then I don't value the slam events as much as Davis Cup).

Others I've spoken to who also followed tennis in the 20th Century value Davis Cup above the slams.
Certainly when I heard Spain didn't qualify for the Davis Cup 2015, it was far more disappointing than when Nadal skipped the US Open (and I say this from the perspective of a Nadal fan, not a Spanish tennis fan, as I'm not Spanish).

LOL at the above. I'm surprised David Nalbandian isn't your favorite player. He shares your priorities.

Who exactly? :snigger

Davis Cup title means as much towards a player's greatness as a doubles event. In both cases you are relying on help to win. There is a very realistic scenario (that has likely played out many times before) where someone in the upcoming DC final goes 0-2 in singles and still wins the Davis Cup.

But anyways it's funny to see why you are so intrigued by the final and praying for a French win. This is such a huge gap in Roger's resume, what with him losing 1 singles match in the past 11 Davis Cups and all :laydownlaughing

Nalby was my fav player....I miss him a lot

Davis Cup brings the most passionate crowds and the best tennis (players appear to be more invested in a Davis Cup match than in a grand slam match). So as a spectator, its impossible not to appreciate the Davis Cup more than other events. Although I always enjoy the French Open and US Open more than Davis Cup.
As for France vs. Switzerland, and my interest in Federer losing it, that dynamic is no different to any other event. I never support Federer, be it Davis Cup, slam event, masters event etc.
Plus I'd rate Tsonga as perhaps my 4th or 5th favorite player on the current tour.

So do I. But his valuing of the Davis Cup so much was unfortunate, since he couldn't bring that same passion to other tournaments.

I rather suspect Nalby's "obsession" with DC was rather more to do with the fact that it offered a clearer path to success than the slams!

Oh, he cared about Grand Slams alright, but he just didn't have what it takes to nab one...

He most definitely cared. He just wasn't good enough! To this day I don't understand how he didn't win the one final he was in. Perhaps things would have been different then

^ Hewitt was pretty strong back then, especially on grass. Nalbs seemed strongest on hard courts, it is US Open 2003 that he really should have won.

Actually you're right. That's the one I was thinking of. Not Wimbledon. He really should have won that US Open, he's was a better player than Roddick even then..
