two quick thoughts:
- this is great news for the Swiss Davis Cup team. looks like the top swiss player will be very committed to playing DC after all!

- Andy Murray, as much as i love him, has made disappointment into an art form. i bet some time around last year, he realized that *not* winning the big ones wouldn't disappoint anyone anymore because they'd gotten used to it. so then he wins the Olympics and his first Slam. of course, back in London, he disappoints again. next GS final, he disappoints. scrappy results everywhere. people might get used to it again? no, because he triumphs at Wimbledon. only to come back to Flushing, and deliver a quite disappointing performance.
so yeah, i do think he'll bounce back. if he didn't, he couldn't get back to disappointing anyone either, could he? ;)

Stan is keeping equal pace with Richie for the last spot at the YEC. If only they could both play there, although I prefer Stan's power from both wings over Gasquet's game.

Despite what a lot of people are saying here, I really enjoyed the match. It was quite suspense as it was a big moment for Wawrinka to reach his first SF. And I love how he can just blow someone off the court.

Knee jerk reactions to Murray's loss. He'll be fine. He's nursing a Wimbledon hangover, lacking a little intensity and ran into an on-fire wake up call by the name of Stan.

My thought too. He had a flat post Wimbledon summer. I think he'll wake up soon, after his prospects of becoming number 1 fizzled for this year, more so he's closer to number 4 than to number 2 ranking.

This could be a banana peel for Murray if he doesn't tighten up his game. He hasn't been playing well since Wimbledon, and Stan is the kind of opponent who can hit him off the court if Andy is not sharp (he's done it before, at this very tournament).

Hat off for your prediction , you were absolutely right
Stan played great and Andy played poorly : well deserved semi for Stan

I love a good blowout; esp. when a fave of mines! Djokovic's dismantling of Ferrer at the the AO this past winter was great! No matter what David did, Nole countered it brilliantly and made him look like an amateur! This Murray match wasn't as close as the score with Stan missing so many opportunities to break Andy! I thought he was going to blow it for a bit; sorta like Verdasco with a 2 set lead at Wimbledon! Some players just can't finish, but Wawrinka certainly proved me wrong!

I called it Wawrinka in four yesterday based on exactly the same reasons outlined
by mc. I am surprised Andy, the future king of tennis and the dunblane warrior, could
not manage to win a set.

Yep, because a player just can't have a bad day. Nothing worse than gloating fans.

Seriously some of the comments on here from various posters are absolutely laughable.

Not going to pretend I'm not gutted. Andy didn't turn up today. His serve and return were off but credit to Stan. He played a blinder as they say. He deserved the win.

Signing off now as it's after 11pm here and I have work tomorrow.

BTW I hate to disappoint some of you but Andy won't be retiring after this loss. He'll be back stronger.

I don't understand why my response is construed as gloating. For the record, I am
a Fed fan and as all of us know he lost miserably. Also, I picked JMDP to win USO and
he got out in second round itself. These things do happen in sports. Nothing is permanent
and Nobody is unbeatable. Besides, if it were the case, we would not be watching
tennis either. Take it easy and have some Irish Scoth; you will get over it in couple of days.

Perhaps if you hadn't felt the need to include your little 'Dunblane warrior' bit it wouldn't have been perceived as gloating. BTW thanks for pointing out that people can lose in sport. Believe it or not I was aware of that fact.

I can only assume that you understand your 'Irish Scoth' remark. Unfortunately it means absolutely nothing to me. As long as you were amused. :)

I think we can cut Andy a bit of slack. He's achieved everything he ever dreamed about in the last 12 months or so. If anything, I think this slam came too soon after Wimbledon. He's back in the UK and the press have savaged him just as I knew they would. It's all or nothing for them.

Andy is playing Davis Cup next week which I think will be good for him. He just needs to re-evaluate his goals and find a bit of fire again. He'll be fine.

Stan played a fantastic game and deserved the win. By all accounts he's a very nice guy on and off the court.

eh ??..that's not happening..folk said he was a choker and not good enough to win, folk were disappointed he wasn't winning a major but reaching finals a lot..

that gold medal changed the mindset, both his and the publics opinion of him.
