On the Masters: 2 of them are equal to one GS? You got to be kidding me. Even a 100 Masters titles do not equal one GS. It's a whole different ballgame. Ask Caroline Wozniacki. Essentially, if Nadal doesn't win this US Open, he Wozniackied himself to world no 1 IF he makes it.... :D kidding, it's impressive that he won so many masters this year, but you need to deliver when it counts, at the GS.

Denis, I believe you got Moxie wrong here. She wasn't saying or implying that 2 masters titles equal a slam victory in terms of value/degree of achievement, just that you are being awarded the same amount of points - 2000p. That's why Nadal so far is head and shoulders above the rest in the race for London despite having two zero pointer for Melbourne and Wimbledon because he amassed 7000p alone by winning 5 masters shields and Paris.

I agree with the general view though that the best grand slam player of any season should be seen as the player of that year but this season I feel it is a bit different which makes it a special season. Djokovic has been just dreadful in masters events, reaching just 1 final in seven so far which is very poor. In case Nadal doesn't win the US Open and still ends up being the year end #1 then I would still say that he's been the best overall. We are not talking about Wozniacki here.

I doubt that a 12 time major champion should apologize for finishing the year as the best just because the rest of the pack were nowhere near as consistent throughout the entire season. Points don't lie, especially when it comes to Nadal who so far in his career has performed much much better on the grand slam stage than Nole and Andy combined. Both entered a lot of masters this season totally half-arsed and without any real desire to win it. I don't think such a behavior should be applauded, let alone awarded with the year end trophy. It is indeed important to pace yourself throughout a season, I get this, but they crossed the line on many occasions this season.

Agreed. I just wanted to make sure we are not equating two masters with one GS in general.

And yeah, Nole didn't do well at the masters and Nadal is seezing the opportunity. But it's still in his hands as I posted.

PS, I hope Mastoor returns too. He is funny and a breeze of fresh air on this Fedal forum. But it seems that most Djokovic posters (Billie, Mastoor, Yolita, herios(where is he?)) have abandoned this ship unfortunately.

Mastoor always takes sabbaticals when Novak goes through a rough time, so don't worry, he hasn't abandoned this ship. He'll be back if/when Novak makes the final.

Billie always posts on and off. She was last seen advancing irrelevant arguments about Novak's parents working hard to raise him to justify Papa Djoko's comments about Federer/Nadal (I have no idea how the two issues are linked either). She'll be back.

Herios said he was on vacation in Romania and will be back soon.

Yolita? I have no idea.

Herios is on hols but coming back today I think. Apart from you Denis (and herios), there is also Riotbeard, nehmeth, Fiero425. Mastoor still posts. Billie very occasionally. Put the word out... we could with a few more Djokovic fans visiting the boards to add a bit more balance.

Agree, whoever wins the 2 majors will be the man of the year.

You are correct.

Those 4 equal to one Kieran who routinely takes a mini sabbatical during the grandslams. I think its pretty even compares to the Rafafans and Fedfans.:snigger

Not really. See above.

Yeah, really.

Herios literally said he'll be back a few days ago as he's on holiday. While Mastoor always disappears after a Novak loss (unless he flat out said he's done with this). Not sure about Billie. Maybe she's too upset over that whole thread regarding Novak's dad and his comments.

Who said that? I am not so much into tennis these days and I am getting ready to follow that poker tournament in Prague.

You would excel at Poker, Mastoor. You're a Novak fan, you're probably great at bluffing.

No one bluffs like Rafa, no tennis player can compare to him. That is why he is changing his profession to a professional poker player, no?

On the YEC: yes it matters. Last year Djokovic overtook Federer during the YEC because of his results there. Remember the drama about Federer not sitting in the right seat? I wonder if Federer will concede to Ferrer the next time they meet lol.

But you're only talking about the "results" for the YEC, which I agree matter. My question was if it matters how they go in as to points. I guess it will matter where they are seeded in the round-robin, but other than that, I don't see that it matters if Rafa or Novak has more points going in.

As to the other, Deni, about whether MS = GS...you totally missed my point. Certainly Rafa is no Caroline Wozniaki. I was only saying that all points, vis-a-vis the revolving 52-week ranking system, have the same weight. If you win enough tournaments and gain enough points, you're #1. But on the men's side, it can't just be cobbling them together. Rafa has won 1 GS (to date,) and 5 MS 1000s, amongst other tournaments. That's a lot of points, and they're not just crappy ones. I was just adding to Dude's notion that, even if you miss 1 Slam, and essentially bail on the other, you could be #1. Because of everything else you've done. And, what he didn't say is: because of what others didn't do.

It's a numbers game. When Rafa was going into 2011 as #1 and 1000s of points ahead of everyone, I told a friend, who was worried about how much Nadal had to defend not to worry. The only way for Nadal to lose his #1 was for one guy to win everything, and that wouldn't happen. Ha! It did!

And, basically, the only way for Nadal to be this close to #1 again, right now, was for him to have won almost everything since his comeback, and for the other big 3 to have faltered when they did. Unexpected, but it does just come down to the numbers.

Well Nadal is poker faced in that he only has one expression on court. His bluffs are conducted outside of the tennis court (ie try my best to have a chance). Novak on the other hand, is the king of on court bluffs. His body language says: "I'm dying, every bone in my body is hurting, if I continue playing further I might collapse, and I better let the whole world know it... Oh wait, I just won a 6 hour match by moving as well in the final set as I did on the first point."

Good question, I think it goes by date. The YEC points drop in exactly one year, so you'll need to check out the calandar. In any event, for me it's more about the year end ranking than losing the spot for a week.

I didn't miss your point. I just wanted to remind you that while Masters events get you a 1000 points, there is no comparison with a GS title.
