The Tournament:

The Internazionali BNL d’Italia features the best players at the Foro Italico in Rome. The tournament is one of the three ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events contested on clay, but the event is more than just tennis; it is a total entertainment experience. High fashion, fine food, fabulous shopping and celebrity musical performances have made the tournament one of the most glamorous stops on the ATP World Tour. Rafael Nadal has won a record seven titles in Rome.

The tennis complex has 11 courts, including the 10,400-seater Centre Court.

About Rome:

I like Nadal's draw because it will give him a look to see his level going into Roland Garros. I think for him is just matter of confidence, rhythm, and health. If he can get some of those he will be fine by Roland Garros!

I was watching Rafa have a hit up with Sinner on the main court in Rome earlier via a twitter link earlier today.

They’re playing qualifications today, but the real tournament begins tomorrow.

I looked at the winners in qualifiers today. A bit long to list, but here are some weird highlights: Gilles Simon is out. (Lost to German Koepfler, whom I never heard of.) Tommy Robredo lost, and I had no idea he was even still playing.

That's some start taking on his countryman PCB in the 2nd Rd! Why does he garner a bye in 1st RD as well as Nadal? Rafa might go out early!

The bye has to be because he made the SFs in NYC. I'm pretty sure it's PCB who is concerned he'll likely go out of Rome early.

Of all the tournaments, it’s most surreal/bizarre not to have any fans at the Foro Italico. They would have gone bonkers at the Berretini matches.

It is a tough draw, especially considering he hasn't played in months, but you're right, it will be a good challenge for him to find his level quickly. Even if he's upset early, he'll have the early rounds of RG to play himself into shape and will undoubtedly be in "Rafa form" by the 4R or so.

But that would probably much more entertaining with fans. So save that for 2021, so long as these asinine, counterproductive, and totally unnecessary lockdowns are finally ended by that time.
