Upset Corner - Wimbledon 2017 Edition

Ok, folks you know the routine. This is your one-stop thread for all upsets, projected, happening and done and dusted. Primary purpose is to sort of act like NFL Red Zone TV channel and alert others to upsets that are brewing.

In the next post, I am going to smell some day 1 upsets. But, there are couple of second round upsets that I am already thinking about. Tommy Hass and Stan might meet in 2R and that has some upset potential. Also, Mahut and Raonic meet in 2R and that also has some minor upset potential.

Here are three potential upsets of day 1.

1. Kohly might take out Cilic. Although it has potential, I hope and think it won't happen.
2. Steven Johnson might be kicked out by Kicker.
3. Ever unpredictable Verdasco might be sent home by Anderson. However, this also possibly won't happen as we have not heard from Anderson lately.

In all honesty, this match reeked of an upset. I actually wonder about the odds before the match. Stan absolutely sucks on grass, doesnt suit his game at all. Then there is Medvedev that many of us have seen play the past few weeks. I actually already saw him trouble Djokovic in February this year in the DC. Clearly has a lot of potential on grass.

Why does he even bother going to England? In the old days, it wasn't uncommon for whole countries like Spain to boycott or skip Wimbledon due to the seedings or court conditions that weren't conducive to their extreme stroke production! If seeded too high, the upsets were plentiful so it was an exercise in futility! Wimbledon doesn't put up with much; McEnroe in '81 probably the only time they overlooked his boorish behavior and didn't disqualify him after early round rant! Borg would have won his 6th title but for their gutlessness that day! Even Australian Open kicked John to the curb late in his career! :cuckoo:

Is Stan losing 1st round an upset? Why'd he even bother to go to the tourney. Just call in sick if that's all the effort he's going to put into it. Thumped by Roger at AO and IW and Nadal at the FO - and THIS is all the effort he can put forth to prove to the world that he deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Fed, Nole, Nadal and Murray? See why I call this doofus a "headcase?" I am officially giving up on Stan. If he makes it past the 3rd round of the US Open I'll be shocked.

"Unreliable" is being polite. He's more down than up these days. Has he played more than 3 rounds at any event besides AO, IW, Geneva and FO? Nope. 11 events and he's lost before SF in 6 of them. This isn't like Roger losing after long lay-offs after big wins. We're talking going out in round 1 3 times -

Dubai - R32 - lost Dzumhur
Miami - R16 (3rd round) - lost to A. Zverev
Monte Carlo - round 2 - lost to Cuevas
Madrid - R16 - lost to Paire
Rome - R16 - lost to Isner
Aegon - R32 - lost of Feli Lopez

And remember - most of these events he had a 1st round bye! I give. Stan's way too talented to be this big a headcase. He cannot play well 2 tournaments in a row. Question is - how much longer before he parts ways with Mangus Norman? We see how well bringing in Paul Annacone for the grass has worked out...

I'll take Khachanov or Cilic. Cilic declared himself ALMOST on par with the big 4 on grass and the only one that's probably true of is Nadal. Time to put up or shut up...prolly gonna be shut up...
