It's a sign of good health returning to the lower ranked players. For too long we've waited for fellas to push the way these guys did - all the way to the finish line...

it's not as drastic yet as one would imagine based just on the wimby points. he'll drop straight to #5 for sure. Berd has to make the final to overtake him and put him to 6. JMDP can't catch him right now.
however, the Olympic points will hurt, and if JMDP and Berd make it far-ish, i reckon they could both overtake him and put him at #7.

Very nice guy. Smart and thoughtful too. One of those players I always hoped would break through and have some big wins. Awesome that he will be remembered as the guy who sent Fed home before the quarters of a major... and Wimbledon no less!

Roger's over 1000 points behind Rafa now in 5th place. It looks like Djokovic's #1 is safe for the entire year, and Murray can probably relax into the year-end #2 ranking, assuming he doesn't tank either Wimbledon or the US Open. Ferrer and Nadal will duke it out for 3rd place and it may come down to how healthy Nadal is.
As for Roger, he SHOULD be able to hold #5 for the year, but you never know - Berdych and/or Del Potro could catch him. My guess is that he finishes in the #5-8 range.

roger picks up a massive 45 rank pts :nono..just checked atp site rankings Q and A..
Poor ol woger loses 1'955 rank pts....(GULP) uzzled..big numbers.
heard a bit of an interview on radio he sounded sooo down and depressed..never heard fed like that before.
Unless Rafa badly injured himself, he has no points to defend for the rest of this year. I expect to see him remain in the hunt.
People have been bemoaning (or celebrating depending on which camp you're in) Roger's demise for a few years. For slams he may need a little luck with the draw to win, but he will be dangerous at the Masters for quite some time. I think he stays in the top four this year.

lob said:What exactly does Fed mean when he says "I still have plans to play for many more years to come,....", as he did after the match? He surely cannot mean what he says. Does he say that for business/contractual reasons? Sure he can stay in the top 10 if he wants to for a couple of years but will it add anything more to his career apart from money? Doesn't look like he is that hungry for another major either. Just wondering what's going through his mind...

First time since 2002 that one of the two won't play the final at Wimbledon.
