one thing we Do know is that it's got nothing to do with Fed's age
feel free to discuss.

i think that's a big factor here. Fed used to thrive like no other when opportunity arose, and now he isn't. that's a huge difference, for sure.DarthFed said:Roger couldn't ask for better opportunities these last 2 slams and he has played horrible. I think it's the end of the road for him sadly.

not at all? so you're telling me that this performance by Stak would've been good enough against a 23-28 year old Fed? if you say so.herios said:Not his age at all. Stakhovsky, played an incredible match.
Who would have thought that Federer and Nadal go out to players ranked 116 and 135 respectively, at the same event in the first week of a slam.

When Rosol beat Rafa, Fed played nervous and almost lost to Benn.
When Darcis beat Rafa, Fed played nervous and this time it caught up to him.
My point is when Rafa got upset early, Roger knew his chances increased exponentially and had a hard time the next match staying calm. It's almost like his focus shifted to the finish line instead of the opponent at hand.
Call it coincidence, but I couldn't help but think about the Haas and Benn matches going into this one.
With that said give credit to Stakhovsky who took advantage.

agree with every single word.Kieran said:Federer has had a great run, the guy's a legend and these things happen, no shame there.
But did anyone else relish Stak's nerve and willingness to play S&V tennis? Sometimes it was like watching Pete, he was that great. Who says you can't play serve volley today on grass? Who? This guy was immense when the pressure was on. Kudos to him, he earned it, just like Darcis great performance against Rafa.
By the way, some people will think the loss of Fedal against such low-rankers is a sign that this will be a bad tournament: it isn't. It's a sign of good health returning to the lower ranked players. For too long we've waited for fellas to push the way these guys did - all the way to the finish line...

mind you, Stak played AMAZING. i loved it. but you might want to check out some of the break points Fed wasted, for once. or compare his ROS to earlier years.. .or or or or...
Rosol effect. Enter in the court thinking you can win it. Also, even better, all the world watching you playing a legend in his backyard, you have nothing to lose, just go for it.Kieran said:By the way, some people will think the loss of Fedal against such low-rankers is a sign that this will be a bad tournament: it isn't.
