Have you also noticed how much Iga raises her game when she plays Coco. That's a huge show of respect for the teenager, but Coco needs to reciprocate more.
I think Coco will eventually beat her and is still growing as a player. It will happen because they would be playing each other throughout their careers. It will take a mental shift with Coco.

Congrats to Donna Vekic who has become quite the 'Giant Killer' at San Diego defeating Damielle Collins in a s/final match that went for 2 days due to rain
Vekic d Collins 64 46 76 (2)

Donna will play Iga Swiatek in the final a few hours from now....thank goodness it is sunny!

Iga Swaitek (1) vs Donna Vekic Qualifer will play in the final in San Diego at 7pm.

H2H Swiatek 2-0 last match they played was at the Qatar Open in February 2020, Iga won in straight sets.
Donna who played qualifers for this tournament, has defeated Sakkari, Pliskova, Sabalenka and Collins in a rain delayed s/final match, that went for 2 days and was completed this morning.

The Ladies Doubles final will be played first before the Ladies Singles Final,

C.Gauff/J. Pegula (1) vs G.Dabrowski/G.Olmos (2)

@kskate2 and @MargaretMcAleer

What happened between Coco and McNally. Did she drop her for daddy Warbucks tennis champion. I thought they were tight and "down like 4 flat tires".

Iga Swiatek wins the 1st set 63 over Donna Vekic in the final in San Diego, highlight has been Iga's return game and her return of serve so far in the match, to me she is the best returner in the present women's game,. Vekic who has a good serve needs to have more variety in her serve.

Great game from Donna using her fhand well and court coverage and breaks Iga and leads 4-2 2nd set, though can she consolidate her break?
Yes she does using her fhand well and being aggressive on the court
Vekic leads 5-2 2nd set
A love service game from Donna to close out the 2nd set 63, she has really stepped up in the 2nd set, took time away from Iga, which is not a easy thing to do.

Going 3 sets in the final, to the delight of the crowd

As good players often do they switch to another gear, as Iga Swiatek has done in the final set at San Diego, she has ' not let Donna' into the final set, Donna has tried to switch things up to no avail. Iga leads 5-0.

Iga Swiatek d Donna Vekic in the final at San Deigo 63 36 60... a great performance from Iga, especially in the 3rd set

Well done to Vekic who had some great wins this tournament, her first final in over 1 year, defeating Sakkari, Sabalenka, Pliskova, and Collins in the s/final. Making the final, Donna will return to the Top 50. Well done Donna!

^Same, along with Alcaraz and Garcia

I stopped rooting for her after obvious gamesmanship at this year’s AO in that SF match against Banshee lol

Thanks for posting, I forgot that incident against Davis, Hmmm not very sportsmanlike at all
Well, she did it again today against Donna in the 2nd set. It seems to be a pattern w/ her when the match is tight. This time Jason Goodall actually called her on it. Taylor said it wasn't illegal, but not very sportsmanlike. Goodall said it's not needed from her. She's too good to stoop to that level.

I did see that again today, agree it wasnt very sportsmanlike, for the life of me she dosent need to do that.

Just read on Twitter that Iga Swiatek has apologized to Donna Vekic for putting her hands up to her at the net.
Hopefully Iga this will be the last time you do it, it is not against the rules, though it is 'Unsportsmanlike and Unacceptable"
