Ons showed a lot of nervous play (poor serving, shot selection, pulling off the shots) mixed in w/ some spotty brilliance. It needs to be the reverse. She's her own worst enemy. She has so many shots to play that she needs confidence and knowledge on when to play what aka good point construction. Maybe needs to expand her coaching team to include someone to help her strategically.
Well she hasn't of late been soo nervous in her shot selection could it be that she felt the pressure of being in another final?Ons has stated before she has felt pressure to perform well in finals,,but agree, especially in the 1st set,her errors and not knowing which shot to play ,especially at this level was very sub par.Her game to me suits clay,I also think her team needs to look at her physical training ,another area she needs to improve, someone mentioned maybe in her final she wasn't herself because she played a 3 set match in her s/final,you have to be prepared and fit to play a 3 set match in a final period.,or any match in a tournament or GS tournament.

Sad news for Romanian player Gabriela Ruse and I hope she takes the time off to get complete rest and not rush back to competition until she feels 100% healthy.

Gabriela Ruse who had struggled with viral pneumonia followed by having COVID-19 for the month of February, played on antibiotics in Dubai.Ruse tried her best to recover and compete in the US, started to feel better in Miami. However in Charleston, felt robbed of energy and struggles on extended in plays.
Further investigation revealed an inflammation of her heart.Body needs rest and a staged return to physical effort.Ruse has withdrawn from Billie Jean Cup and will be out of competition for the coming weeks.

Bianca Andreescu has entered Roland Garos with her protected ranking of 22
Biance has not entered Rome ( either with the PR or her actual ranking)
If she wants to play Rome,it looks like she will need a WC.

They'll give her one if she asks. She might be saving her protected ranking for other tourneys. I know there's a certain amount of PR's you get when you return from injury.

Four time Grand Slam winner Kim Clijsters has retired from tennis again. The 38 year old,who ended her second retirement in 2019,after a seven year hiatus, announced Tuesday that she will no longer play official tournaments and cannot wait to see what new adventures cross her path.

Probably the best thing. It was really hard to see her out there trying to play and not nearly in the shape that is required for her to compete.

Agree ,one of her last matches I just could not watch for long.,focusing on her family now to me is the right decision,I mean she could also commentate on tennis,. down the track if she wanted.

Update on Bianca Andresscu,

Andreescu has entered Rome with her PR.( dosen't mean she's going to play all of these clay tournaments- depends how everything goes, but she is entered).

Good. I'd like to see her make a run at RG. Iga will be tough to beat, but not impossible.

Serena Williams has just posted a video via Twitter and has said she is not done with tennis and will be coming back for Wimbledon and has not mentioned anything about Patrick as her coach or ex coach.
I would prefer her to play RG and SW 19. Either way I am not going to put too much stock into winning the title. I think her last great run there was when she got her clock cleaned by Halep.

Serena needs match play,so I was expecting her to play Rome, a tournament she loves then RG,then hopefully play a lead up grass tournament before Wimbledon,at present that is not on her radar.

I agree.. I think that she is less than 10 percent which may be way to high to win Wimbledon. Patrick has left her for Halep, he knows that she no longer even a serious longshot to win another slam.

Halep to me is a long shot at this stage of her career to win another GS title,at present she is always getting injured. After she split with Cahill, she decided to go alone, well that did not work out at all,she kept losing early in tournaments,on the advice of Cahill she decided to join the Mouratoglou Academy, had a couple of coaches at her matches and then the announcement from Patrick he was coaching Halep.I always thought when Serena finally retires,Patrick would coach Coco Gauff, just my thoughts.

Serena should have retired 5 years ago when she decided that she wanted to be a full time mom and a less PT tennis pro. I CAN'T see her defeating these top players for the duration of a fortnight..I think she will have to get a draw where all the top seeds fall out but Madison and Sabalenka. That's the only scenario or path to a grand slam at this point.

Isn't this classic "go out on top" thinking? (And how could you, or she, have known at the time?) Since she won the AO in 2017, she's been in 4 finals and two SFs, including one last year. Not bad. I wonder how many other women have been in 4 finals and 2 SFs at Majors in the past 5 years. Sure, now, at 40, she's going to need more than a little help in the draw to win another Major, or even go deep. But if she's willing to keep playing, I'm willing to keep cheering her on.

Knowing Serena she will go out on 'her own terms and time'.

You may be missing my point. If she was a FTE player at least two of those finals would have been GS titles. I will cheer for her but it's deflating to see these chances pass her by.

Though it is not officially a WTA event, there is a 100,000 ITF being held in Palm Harbor, Florida. It marks the return of Taylor Townsend to the ITF/WTA circuit, and so far she's managed to win her first two singles matches and plays Katie Volynets in the QF round at 5:30 pm EST. These events are great to see upcoming players, players on the comeback trail, and sadly some players in the twilight of their careers. Either way it's a great way to see some quality tennis for the local Floridians who happen to be in the area. Welcome back Taylor Townsend!
