It's an ITF tournament giving points in the WTA rankings - so by winning the tournament 16 yo Clara Tauson jumps straight - from outside the ranking - to #408 in Mondays new ranking - as they write in Live WTA ranking a jump of 9591 places - she's now on a 22 match winning streak this year inclusive junior title AO.Is this a regular wta tourney or a challenger type tourney?
(Borrowed from Mark Nixon) At the $15K tournament in Xiamen, China, Clara Tauson (Den), 16, WTA 407, ITF 259) overcame a slow start and defeated Guo Meiqi (CHN), 19, (WTA 626, ITF 138) 2-6 6-3 6-2. It was her fifth tournament win in as many tries in 2019, and her match win streak is now at 27. It was also her third consecutive pro tournament win. She is now 107 in the ITF World Tour rankings, and should be enough tor DA to main draws in many $15K tournaments. Her WTA ranking of 407 also means she can have DA to quali for some $25K+tournaments.
From what I can see, Tauson will have the next three weeks off from tournament play. The next deadline for tournament entry is Thursday March 28 for tournaments starting April 14. Barring, of course, last minute wild cards/special exemptions.
Correct - UNTIL the player turns 16 - which Clara did just before x-mas 2018. She takes a break now and continue on the clay courts. But no official plans yet. BTW do you know this homepage:If I remember right, there is a WTA rule limiting how many real (WTA) tournaments an young player can play. I think it was formulated to prevent burnout at an young age or something like that.
