No it's not she had liver cancer which is incurable. Hers was from an early illness which one of the symptoms was eventually developed into liver cancer. Victoria has the same cancer as one of the other tennis players to which I cannot spell her last name. I think her first name is Alysa Klybo...I don't know something like that.

It sure is good news, especially considering the word "cancer" was part of the initial report you posted.

I feel bad for her, but I'm glad it can be cured easily. I wish her the best, and hope for a safe and speedy recovery. She seems like the sweetest, nicest young lady, who has already gone through a lot, and now this.

Caught early, and yes she is physically fit. Bodes well for a recovery. Hope she takes her time to completely recover and not rush back to play tennis. Good health far outweighs being on the court. Best to her, she is a sweet young lady.

Mahesh Bhupathi, the founder of the International Premier Tennis League, informed Yahoo! Philippines on Friday that the Big Dome has been chosen to host the inaugural weekend of the IPTL on November 28, 29, and 30.

Read more/a lot about the IPTL league which starts last week-end of November - quite interesting I can tell you ;)

Man arrested for Kvitova threats....a report from AP Friday 11th July.

Czech police say they have arrested a man who allegedly made threats against Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova.

Police spokeswoman Gabriela Holcakova said Friday that a 23-year-old Czech made threats against "a publicly known person" in a phone call to to an unspecified other person on Thursday.Holcakova would not confirm Czech media reports that the targeted person was Kvitova.

Holcakova said the man,who was not identified, was arrested as police considered the threats serious.

Kvitova's spokesman Karel Tejkal said " nobody had threatened the tennis player directly, but added"police did a great job".

The incident follows criticism of Kvitova, including a member of parliament, for moving from the Czech Republic to Monaco to avoid higher taxation.

WTA Board considering allowing Top Players to play more smaller Events....report from Tandon Kamakashi...Monday July 14th.

Top 10 players could be allowed to play in two International events in each half of season instead of one,if a proposed rule change is approved by the WTA Board.

Auckland tournament director Karl Budge, who is the Asia-Pacific representative on the board, told the Sunday News,a New Zealand newspaper, that he and Carlos Fleming,a player representative and Venus Williams' agent, are requesting an increase in the amount of International events Top 10 players can play.At the moment, players who finished the previous season in the Top 10 can play only one such event in each half of the season if they meet their required commitments to other tournaments. The board is looking of allowing two in each half of the season.

International events, which give $250,000 in prize money, are lower-level tournaments that usually give top players a fee for appearing at the event.

"It's something that's in the best interests of everyone",said Budge."It gives the players the opportunity of playing more International tournaments over the first six months, which we all want and need".

The rule has led to occasions when players have not been able to enter tournament because there were other top players in the field.Tournaments can take an extra Top 10 player, said Budge, but would pay a fine of up to $250,000.

The limitation means that International tournaments must entice Top 10 players to play their event instead of any other during that portion of the season.

"I'm not suggesting that we need to have more Top 10 players in our week,we're happy with our level, but we need the ability of getting a Top-10 player and making sure every year we can and we're not competing with a tournament like Monterrey three months after us",he said.

A change in the rule is said to be especially important for tournaments because of the scheduled additions of a grass-court International-level event in Nottingham, which would be attractive as a warm-up to Wimbledon.A motion on the issue is being looked at by the board.

Serena going through "difficult period" says coach Mouratoglou....report from Kamakshi Tandon Thursday 17th July.

Serena Williams is going through a "difficult period",according to her coach Patrick Mouratoglou, who also said the two are still working together.Williams' physical and mental condition has been the subject of speculation since she appeared disorientated during a doubles match at Wimbledon and retired after serving four double faults in the third game. The official reason given for the withdrawl was "viral illness" but commentators have openly questioned the explanation.

At the time,Mouratoglou said he had not seen Williams' for two days going into the match.Williams had been defeated by Alize Cornet in the third round of the singles tournament.Since then, she withdrew from this week's event in Bastad.

"Serena is clearly going through a difficult period. But since Wimbledon,we have had long hours of talks and we are getting back to work",Mouratoglou told Tennis Magazine France.

"Today she is in the mood to get back to training so she can return even stronger. At no time was there any question of us stopping our collaboration".

Mouratoglou would not comment on their personal relationship. The two were widely considered to be dating but there are now rumours of a rift.

"I have never discussed private matters and I am not going to talk about them now. There have been difficult things. For sure,Serena is in a difficult phase but I will leave it there".

Williams, who is reported to be in training in Croatia with hitting partner Sascha Bajin,is scheduled to play in Stanford, which begins in two weeks.

It was Sharapova's fifth time winning the ESPY award for Best Female Tennis Player (2005,2007,2008,2012 and now 2014).Only Serena Williams has more with six (2003,2004,2009,2010,2011 and 2013).

congrats to maria. however, if this was about the prior calender year, shouldn't this go to serena or halep. they led the tour in titles won last year.
