Does anyone know how many points Halep defends versus Serena from this point on because Halep realistically seems to be the only one who could catch Serena for number 1? I know Serena has more to defend, but curious how much ground Halep could make to take it.

Here are their rankings breakdowns, but I'm not sure how to calculate the rest.

Serena:

Halep:

http://www.wtatennis.com/players/player/13516/title/simona-halep

EDIT: Those links don't take you directly to the rankings breakdown page, which I thought they did. Evidently you can't link to them directly. Just click on the "Rankings" tab, then "rankings breakdown" and you'll see the numbers.

Serena defends 4499 points the rest of the year.
Simona defends 1691 points the rest of the year.

Serena leads Simona by 2680 points.

The above stats are as of today.

So Simo would need a lot of help from Serena (not winning anymore titles) and do well herself to have a shot at #1

This means effectively Simo is leading Serena by 122 points (with rest of the year points
removed). So as long as Simo can perform at least as well as Serena, she can boot out
Serena. However, me thinks (is this even grammatically correct) it won't happen.

Serena needs seven more weeks to surpass Hingis. After that, she needs 50 weeks to surpass Evert. Probably she will wind up fourth all time as number one. Quite an accomplishment. Let's hope she rests and preps for USO. Fans are anxiously awaiting her winning her 18th major.

She should win the USO, however we all also know things can go sideways in New York. I'm being optimistic, however, and hoping for the best.

Over the past few months, I've rediscovered my appreciation of Serena (it began right around the beginning of RG), so it's been difficult to see her lose early in Paris, then Wimbledon. At least Cincinnati was a success, and will boost her confidence going into New York.

Another thing where are all the articles castrating maria for her behavior last night mocking Ana about her blood pressure? Has anyone seen any articles that I may have missed...Not even maria's loss was on the espn front page. None of the so call tennis writers has penned one article about her cold heart towards the "sick" Ana last night. Again the blatant bias of the tennis community even the message boards. I mean you could hear a pin drop from the tennis community with that behavior from pova, and I am sure we will not see a backlash...This is why I hate those people to the core. Could we just imagine if this was Serena? This is a rhetorical question of course.

You are kinda wrong about this, how about a couple of links for you?

I am sure there will be more.
There's also the countless forums this is being discussed...

Are you kidding me those are all regular articles not a negative comment in any of them about Maria. Had Serena had done that the negative articles would still be on every website out there. Serena would be call the most cold hearted bytch out there. Give a break those 3 articles are the same articles i've read and as I said not one negative comment in any of them about maria. I am not fool and all of you all know exactly what I am talking about. Like I said Serena would have been tarred and feathered and hang out to dry. She would have been called low class, unprofessional and more.

I think she will be all business at the USO. Did u hear her on ESPN yesterday? She knows #1 is up for grabs and wishes she had started playing better earlier this year. I also think it's why she added Wuhan to her schedule.

I hope she is practicing her return and her ground strokes! Her serve is on point. I am glad to see Serena is moving forward more. Patrick get the aggression back into the game, first strike!

Like I said, the good news for Serena despite the ups and downs she has had in play she had a solid summer. She came out on top in two tournaments despite messy play at times that has to make her happy. It also shows these other girls are a mess if they can't take care of a B/C level Serena. Serena despite all her uncertainty at times has certainly been solid when everyone else around her has been a straight up mess.
